Sun protection
“It’s really important to apply enough sunscreen to provide the protection suggested by the label,” says Sara Hiom, director of health information at Cancer Research UK. “Most people simply don’t use enough. Using at least a factor 15 sunscreen with a star rating of four or five can help to protect against damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. While sunscreen is one important way to protect yourself in the sun, remember that sunscreen should be used together with other protective measures such as shade, clothes and sunglasses.”
Don’t forget to wear a hat during the hottest part of the day – even your parting can burn in tropical climates! – and too much sun on the top of your head is a major cause of sunstroke. If you both like swimming, watersports or even jogging on t he beach, try the new Piz Buin Active Long Lasting sprays and lotions, with 20 and 30 SPF, £15.99

sickness relief
\"Always take travel sickness preparation at least 1-2 hours before you start traveling, says Boots pharmacist Angela Chalmers. Most remedies are based on drowsy anti-histamines that work on the nausea centre on the brain and include cinnarizine, promethazine but these can be sedating and you must avoid alcohol with them. Hyoscine is less sedating than the anti-histamines but you still need to avoid alcohol as you may have one glass of champagne but it will feel like a lot more! Speak to your pharmacist, especially if you are on other medicines or have medical conditions.\" Try Boots Alternative Travel Sickness - 72 Tablets (£4.60) which help relieve the symptoms without causing drowsiness by stimulating the body\'s own natural healing processes.

Research shows that wearing fight socks during air travel not only helps reduce swelling and improve blood circulation, but can also help cut the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). They may not look very Sex and the City, but who cares. Dont forget to move around as much as possible in the cabin, to rotate ankles and stretch and flex your toes wherever possible during long flights. Find Scholl Flight Socks, sizes 6-9, in Superdrug.

insect repellent
\"If youre going to an area that has mosquitos (with or without malaria) then a 50% deet option is best for you, says Boots pharmacist, Angela Chalmers. Repellents work by playing havoc with the insects landing gear so if you miss applying an area of skin, the insect will still be able to land and bite. That is why lotions or roll-ons are an easy way to apply and you will know if you have missed any areas. Apply just before dusk as this is when biting insects come out and re-apply every five hours.
\r\n
Avoid strong aftershave and perfume as this attract insects and, apparently, they land more on dark colours thinking they are a tree so go for light colours instead!\"
Try Boots Repel Insect Repellent pump spray - 120ml (£6.45). Or for an all-natural anti-mosquito formula, try Mrs Whites Unstung Hero, new from Roullier White, with a lemon tea fragrnce and a fresh Au de Cologne that means you can also spray it on bedding. £15 per 250ml.
