All eyes (not to mention camera lenses) will be firmly focused on you on your W-Day. If you’re going down the DIY route with your make-up, award-winning Tabinda Shah of Bindis & Tiaras, who regularly beautifies Asian brides, offers her top 10 head-turning tips whatever your bridal style.

1 - Make a plan

"Your wedding day is the one occasion where all eyes are guaranteed to be exclusively on you," says Tabinda. You’re putting so much effort into planning your dress and hair, so do the same with your make-up. Make appointments with a professional make-up service or head to your local department store to get some advice from the make-up counter staff. Try Bobbi Brown, Giorgio Armani or MAC who do great basics and lovely bridal shades. Take along red carpet pictures to show them what you like and even better, turn up in the kind of make-up you like wearing to give them a good idea of the colours and heaviness you usually go for. When you have invested in your big day products, have practice runs at home so that you know exactly what you’re doing.

2 - Start a good skincare regime

"Residue make-up, grime and pollution can cause blackheads, congested skin, open pores, dryness, flakiness and discolouration, which will all show up as dull, lifeless looking skin," warns Tabinda. Three months before W-day, start using products targeted at solving your skin care worries. Cleansing thoroughly twice a day will help you maintain clean skin and prepare it for repairing moisturiser. Add a gentle exfoliant and a mask into the mix once or twice a week too.

3 - Be sun savvy

"Come clouds, rain or shine, always wear moisturiser that carries an SPF of at least 30 to shield your skin against damaging and ageing UV rays," says Tabinda. "If your big day dress is strapless or sleeveless, apply it to your arms and shoulders too. Sunburn won’t look good in your final photos!"

4 - Don’t stress over spots

"If Mount Vesuvius dares to rear its ugly head on your big day, resist the urge to pick the blighter and just pop on some Savlon cream," advises Tabinda. "As far as covering it goes, don’t layer too much concealer on – it’ll only make it look more obvious. Dot a tiny bit of green concealer to tone down the redness before you blend your creamy concealer on top and powder lightly."

5 - Base control is good

"Don’t pile on foundation like a mask," says Tabinda. "For the most natural-looking finish just apply it where you need coverage over a layer of primer. Go for a light liquid formulation or a tinted moisturiser and apply it using a sponge so that it evens out your skintone delivering a slightly dewy finish." A perfect colour match is essential. The counter staff will help you find your most flattering shade.

6 - Bad brows be gone

"Neatly groomed brows are a wedding day must and add a simplistic air of sophistication to your bridal glamour," says Tabinda. "Be careful not to get tweezer happy as over-plucked pair of brows are just as unappealing as an over-grown ones." It’s best to get them professionally shaped first so you’re just in charge of tiny tweaks at home.

7 - Guard against panda eyes

"Expect a few happy tears along the way," she says, "and invest in a waterproof mascara." You could even go one or two better than that by having your lashes tinted or getting eyelash extensions fixed.

8- Let there be light

"When the big day dawns, apply your make-up in the best possible light, ideally by a window," says Tabinda. "If there is no natural light in your room then sit by a lamp and remove the shade to illuminate your face and help ensure you end up with a flawless look.’

9 - Be photo-friendly

"Your guests and photographer will use a flash," warns Tabinda. "A dusting of face powder will ensure that you remain shine-free."

10 - Look like you!

"It’s so important that you look like yourself on your wedding day. Don’t try to steer too far away from your everyday look. Your groom isn’t expecting a stranger to meet him at the altar!"
