introduction to jake and maggie's glorious budget wedding!

Hi everyone. My fiance and I are a student couple looking to marry in October 2011. I am from California and he is a Hampshire boy, so we will be having the main event in his home town and then another less formal celebration in the US.

We met at uni on a riding club social. We'd both come dressed as schoolgirls :) We have lived together for most of our relationship. I love him because he is intelligent, practical and very sensitive and understanding (I could go on, but I'll stick to those!)

We've just told our parents about our engagement and they're really pleased. His mother is especially zealous about the planning. I'm glad someone is helping me out as I'm a bit nervous and don't quite know how to start! We are on a budget as we're at the beginning of our careers (we're graduating this year). To be honest, I don't think I'd do it much differently if we weren't financially constrained. I want it to be a simple, intimate day. In my opinion, there are too many suppliers out there trying to take advantage of brides to be. Why allow ourselves to be parted from scads of our money to have what we're pressured to have by the industry. My father will be conducting the toasts at my wedding :)

As we've chosen autumn time, we'd like to have an autumnal wedding. My mother-in-law to be has found us a lovely barn for the reception and I'm searching for ceremony venues. I'm thinking green and gold (mil2b got married a couple years ago and used red, don't wanna imitate hers too much!)

If anyone knows of a cheap civil ceremony venue in the basingstoke area to hold 70 guests, do tell!

Good for you Maggie-I quite agree budgets are the way forward :)

We are also having a Autumn wedding-I love that season, the golden light, the beautiful colours of the leaves in the trees-it's so romantic :) I'm just hoping it's not a typical rainy british weather on my day! At least if you have a cloudy/rainy day here in england for your day-your sure to have a beautiful sunny day back in the US :) xxx
