Wooo hooo Geminis do rock! LOL!!

Your nationality: Nigerian

Your tribe: Yoruba

Fiance's nationality: Australian

Fiance's tribe: N/A

Where are you getting married? London/Surrey, April '09

Are your having a traditional wedding? Most definitely!!

What are your trad colours? For the aso oke I’m wearing a coral buba and sky blue iro and gele and h2b will be wearing a white buba and sokoto and sky blue agbada. On the sky blue pieces there’ll be some embroidery in coral and gold and I’ll be wearing coral beads and gold jewellery. Then we’ll change into silver lace and wine gele/cap, or maybe the other way around…. Or silver lace and pink gele…. I haven’t decided yet lol.

What are your white wedding colours? My colours will be ivory, sage green, chocolate, pink and gold. Just a sprinkling of pink to add some girliness, I’m not really a girly girl but there’s something about weddings that draws it out of you! lol

What are you wearing (traditional and white wedding, dress, shoes, everything!) See above for trad gear. My dress is the Francine dress from Berketex brides. I have a special attachment to the store because my mum got her wedding dress from there as well in 1977! Awwwww Happy

And my shoes are Jimy Choos! Hurrah!!

Here’s a link to the pic of my dress, cake and shoes http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/83203791

What are you doing with your hair? I have no idea!! I’m not a slicked back, not a strand of hair out of place kinda girl. I usually have dready braids and my hair is natural. So I have no idea what to do that’s elegant but still “me”…. Any suggestions here will be greatly appreciated!

What kind of bouquet will you have? A bouquet of closed ivory peonies! I heard they start budding in April which is when I’m getting married.
Love peonies so I’m really hoping I’ll be able get them!

How many bridesmaids? 7 eeeep!

What's your wedding budget? Its ever expanding, but right now we’re settling on 35K

Where are you getting married? (traditional, church and reception venues) Trad wedding will be at the Painshill park conservatory in Cobham Surrey, and the church is at Wimbledon with the reception at the RAC club, Pall Mall

How involved is your fiance in the wedding preparations? Pretty involved! He arranged the church and reception venues, gromsmen outfits, all the cars taking us to church and the reception, and red route master buses to transport guests from the church to the reception through the centre of London so they can see the sights etc. A lot of guests are coming in from overseas and for many it’ll be their first time in London

Where are you going on your honeymoon? Our fave place in the world, Paris!! After the stress of the wedding, we decided we wanted to go somewhere we knew well and could just take things easy and relax. Not a place where we'd spend the first half of the trip trying to get around and then finding the right, non-touristy restaurants to go to etc... Plus h2b travels a lot for business so he associated plane rides with work which is the last thing he wants lol. At the end of the day what we want from a honeymoon is relaxation and each other's company. I was a bit hmmm about the whole thing cuz Paris is just next door and hardly exotic but h2b said whatever we save on plane tickets I can shop with... Well that kinda sealed the deal for me heh heh Happy

What kind of wedding cake you having? Cupcakes!!! YAY!! See link above for pics of what I want. I’ll have a bigish top tier which is what we’ll cut and then a “cascade” of cupcakes with lots of fresh flowers in and around the little cakes.

What favours are you giving your guests? Ki le ma ha??!! My Yoruba sucks hee hee.....
My maid of honour is responsible for the favours, it’s her wedding present to me which is so sweet of her. So I’ve let her have full reign on that one, I have no idea what she’s organising!

What's going to be unique about your wedding? I think the cakes! I’ll bet a few eyebrows will be raised but I’m kinda quirky and the whole traditional tiered cake is too serious for me. Plus I think by having a top tier I’ll be satisfying some people lol. Who cares I love cupcakes!! YAY!!

LOL!!! I'm the only daughter so this is the only time my parents have to splurge like this. Plus h2b and I are contributing 40% or so lol.

My aunties were reeling from shock at me marrying an Aussie lol, I think they were thinking in terms of distance... I guess t hasn't quite occurred to them that Aussies live in England too.... Once they all met him though, they fell in love with him, just like I did. He's so lovable and down to earth but super sophisticated, Bond style. How could I resist?!! LOL! Plus he's done business in Nig, Botswana and Zimbabwe so he's incredibly knowledgeable on Nig culture, food etc. He beats me on the chili front and I thought I was the chili master! Humpf! My mum says he's a full Niaja man, just needs a tan that's all lol!

Your nationality: Nigerian born British (came to Uk when I was 2)

Your tribe: Yoruba

Fiance's nationality: Nigerian

Fiance's tribe:Benin

Where are you getting married? B'ham

Are your having a traditional wedding? No, but we did the introduction and then are having an engagment on the weds before the wedding.

What are your trad colours? For the engagement my future mother in law is going to dress me up like a trad Benin bride - the full bead ensemble!!

What are your white wedding colours? Amber, Ivory and Gold

What are you wearing (traditional and white wedding, dress, shoes, everything!) Everything, I'm wearing a gorgeous (even if I say so myself) white dress then getting changes in the evening to Trad,in the colour theme! My Aunty is sending this from Nigeria

What kind of bouquet will you have? Amber Callas

What's your wedding budget? £20K

Where are you going on your honeymoon? US

What kind of wedding cake you having? 4 tier square cake, its a really funky design as the teirs are not parallel, hard to explain, but not traditional looking

We're going to include something in the ceremony that marks our union and our faith, either a unity candle or tying of a three stranded cord

Well, that was fun, this forum is looking up already!!! xx

LOL! Iks Wifey, you're not the only one. I've only just gotten off my butt and got myself in order. My h2b was the one who organised the big things like the church and reception venue which are the hardest to sort out I think. I was soooo overwhelmed and didn't know where to start and was crying all the time cuz I was convinced we were going to have a crap wedding and it'll be my fault etc, so he said if he sorted out the venues, would I be okay? I sniffed and hiccuped a little and said yeah lol. We're getting married in April which is only 5 months away so if I were not organised now then we'd have no hope!!

I think a great place to start is deciding what you like, what colours you want and a broad theme of the wedding (nothing too specific because you'd want some allowance to change your mind). Buy lots of magazines!! I have about a billion, so many that I bought the same ones twice and didn't even realise it. I'm nuts!

Also Check www.theknot.com for great ideas!

Geministar thanks for that. The only problem is I have a date (in my head) - but we officially don't have a date. yep you read correctly - i don't know when i'm getting married. In my head I have May next year but that might not happen

I don't even want to be thinking about the wedding anymore. I'm going to Nigeria early next year for about a month to sort out things (as the wedding is in Nigeria) and deal with my H2B - I pity him i really do - LOL!

I always thought I wanted a big wedding but after attending my best friends wedding this year and planning my own now and seeing the stress involved - to be honest I want a small wedding, cut my cake have my first dance and go home with my hubby and enjoy my honeymoon night.
Wink

Another gemini in the house, bear with me cos I keep changing my mind.

Your nationality: British/Nigerian

Your tribe:Ibo

Fiance's nationality: Nigerian

Fiance's tribe:Ibo

Where are you getting married? Allum hall -hertfordshire

Are your having a traditional wedding? Yep Dec 29th, we're going to Nigeria in a week's time and staying for a month.

What are your trad colours? Not sure, true to my gemini style, i couldn't decide on a colour fast enough so my mum is handling that.

What are your white wedding colours?at the moment, Ivory, gold, champagne and sage green. (seems to be a popular colour scheme this year)

What are you wearing (traditional and white wedding, dress, shoes, everything!)not sure about trad, for white wedding, i'm wearing a casablanca 1892. I was in new york 2 weeks ago and tried on about 30 dresses and fell in love with it. Not sure about shoes though

What are you doing with your hair? not sure yet, i know it will be an updo though.

What kind of bouquet will you have?either calla lilies or roses.

How many bridesmaids? 5 bm and 2 flower girls.

What's your wedding budget? want to keep everything under 15k

Where are you getting married? (traditional, church and reception venues) Catholic church in borehamwood, reception is 5 mins away also in borehamwood. trad is in dad's compund in Naija

How involved is your fiance in the wedding preparations? He has his moments, he has been more hands on lately though.

Where are you going on your honeymoon? H2.b's surprise and he is keeping his mouth shut

What kind of wedding cake you having? Not sure yet, I went today to book the cake maker and put down the deposit, We tasted her cakes 3 weeks ago and fell in love with her work. So we'll decide on what we want when I come back from Nigeria.

What favours are you giving your guests? Ki le ma ha??!! My Yoruba sucks hee hee Not sure, honestly, favours are the last thing to do on my to do list. I def don't want the usual plastic trays, key rings etc.

What's going to be unique about your wedding? It is also my birthday on that day, so I'll also be incorporating that somehow into the celebrations somehow.

Ik's wifey, you are not the only one, I feel like I should be more organised. I'm getting married in June and I haven't got caterer, , photographer, videographer or venue decorator yet.

NkiruE - If what i didn't have was the same as you i wouldn't be worried. I'll tell you what i have so u know what i don't have. I have my dress, a bolero, my garter, my shoes. Ribbon for the IV's - was going to buy my veil today - but just could not be bothered. My fiance is now a bit worried that he keeps calling to ask if i still want to get married. Oh hold on - I have the headtie (gele) for the thanksgving service on the sunday.

You see i'm western and H2B is proper Nigerian and you know how they are back home - ah ah why you dey stress now - we have plenty time now, you oyinbo people just like to worry yourself too much. haba! anyway like i said i will deal with him when I travel. He will get the biggest shock of his life by the time my trip is over. We have already moved the (non exsitent) date twice!!!!!!!!
