Hi claireabella82

Welcome to the forum.

We got married in May and had a church wedding with sit down meal reception one week and a Sikh wedding with buffet reception the following one.

We had a combination of English and Indian food both weeks. For the sit down main course we served roast chicken, veg and gravy and chicken tikka, rice and mint sauce. And the following week it was a buffet with sandwiches, sausage rolls, curry, samosa's etc. We had a DJ play a mix of English and Indian music and he did a brilliant job.
As for decorations etc we didn't try to combine styles but went for things we liked and most importantly didn't cost a lot. We had village halls both weeks for the receptions. On the tables we had mirror plates (ikea) with a stem vase (homebase) with three artificial gerberas (ikea) and stones in. We then had battery tealights (e-bay) in glass holders (ikea) on the mirrors.

On the walls we got rolls of floriists spider web fabric (e-bay) and hung it in lengths down the walls. We put battery fairy light (e-bay) behind them. There wasn't really a theme, just lots of bright colours.

Good luck with the planning.

For our wedding we took a fairly simple approach to mixing in aspects of the two cultures.

We had a very english venue, a cathedral style heritage building. The food was all indian. The name cards were simple butterfly shapes. The favours were old fashioned sweets (jelly beans, pear drops etc) put into a little bag with indian embroidery on them. We also did the usual mix of english and indian music, and of course our guests were a mixture of english and indian people!

As a lot of other people will tell you - don't worry too much about themes, go for what you both like and that will always be a winner.

Good luck.
