Subject : joint bank accounts

have you guys got joint bank accounts with your h2b/husband? and if so, do you have separate accounts to? i don't know whether we should just have the one or if we should have a joint one and one each?!

hmmm, decisions!

Nope, we put our money together though - I give hubby a lump sum every month, which is my share of the rent, bills, etc. then we just buy everything we need with the amount we have left. I don't know whether you need to, tbh, it's up to you though hon! x

We have a joint account and that's it, we both have credit cards though which just come out at the end of the month from our joint account so we don't see each others purchases, so we can still buy presents etc without the other seeing how much we spent! Or in my case, I can buy clothes and my husband doesn't know how much they cost. Happy

It works very well for us!

We have a joint savings/wedding account. H2B is out of work so I pay for most things but when he does get a job or if he's got some spare cash from helping out friends/family with odd jobs/cutting grass/etc he'll put that towards helping. But thats just how things are going to be for now until we get settled.

Will prob get a joint bank account for bills once we're back on our feet

We hve a joint account and then have seperate accounts for our own hobbies. My h2b competes in motorsport and there is no way I am giving him money out of the joint account for that haha. Flipping expensive hobby.

We give ourselves a monthly allowance out of the joint account and we can spend that how we want to. The joint account is for bills/food/travel etc

We're the same. Both our wages go into our joint account. Some of that money goes on bills, some goes into our joint savings account and whats left over gets split between us and goes into our own personal accounts. I also have my own savings account so I can save for h2bs wedding presents and my hen weekend. It seems to work really well for us, especially when there's a big expense like someone's birthday or a wedding that we'll be attending. I like the 50/50 split (even though I earn more than him) and am gratefull that he does all the accounting 'cos I'm just pap at it!

We don't have anything in joint names - yet!

Purely because my ex wrecked my credit rating because everything i had with him was joint, so i don't want h2b's to be damaged by association with me. I a couple of years when mine is all sorted out then we may get joint accounts, but right now i like it, as i have 'my own money', which i never did before, when Ex used to spend it all on beer! Smile

Our money goes into our individual accounts but we transfer most by standing order into our joint account which covers food, bills and going out together and the bit left in our own accounts is for shoes for me and beer for him! We do help each other out though and dont see it as my money and your money. We might change it for our pay to go into 1 account at some point but its seems to work pretty well as it is! x

We have a joint account that all bills come out of, then we each have our own account and then we have a 'wedding savings' account.... works well for us.

We have a joint "living account" which we live on, a joint "bills account" which the bills etc come out of and we transfer money into that monthly and a joint savings account. we dont have separate accounts

h2b doesnt like doing finances so it is easier for me to deal with it all.

We have a joint a/c for bills and a joint saving a/c, but also both have sole a/cs into where our wages get paid. But we both share all our money anyway. H2B has lost his card at the mo so I'm paying for everything, then if I'm a bit short he'll transfer some money over from his sole a/c.

We have individual accounts, the payments come out of mine and he pays the cash to me.
We are getting a joint account set up after the wedding but it will still have our wages paid into our own accounts and transfer the bills money into the joint account.
I had a HUGE row with my MIL2B over this... she was drunk one night and was being nosey about our finances... her pov was that if you don't have a joint account (as in just the one account and no others) that you don't trust your partner and you might as well not get married... I think this is because she gets paid **** all and if she was not leeching off the FIL2B she would have nothing... she spends his money like water and never thinks about it... I prefer to have my own account so I can spend my money and he can spend his....

We have everything joint. All our money is getting sucked into the wedding blackhole at the moment anyway so it doesn't really matter where it is!

We have a joint account which we earch put a lump sum into every month for things like the mortgage, bills, food etc. Then we have our seperate accounts where anything we have left we can spend on ourselves. Find it works better like that because we can still buy ourselves things without feeling guilty. Even though we have the joint account we're really aware that half the money is the other persons.
