Subject : Do you have to get your birth certificate translated....

Hey there,

Just wondering, does anyone know- do you have to get your birth certificate translated into the native language wherever you get married in the carribean and is it true that it costs between £600-£800 for the consulate to do this and legalise the documents?

Well first of all: Where are you getting married?

Then the next question I would ask is: Is your BC in English??

Unless you're getting married in the Dominican Rep, then I think you'll find we DO speak English in the West Indies, as it is our native tongue...

Well we were thinking of the Dominican, but it seems that there may be quite a lot of papaerwork to get translated etc. for there and other countries seem to be a little more straight forward.

Yes our birth certificates are in English, thanks for the repsonse, it has confirmed my suspicisons.

Not at all, Brownbabygirl -what made you think that? I personally thought the response I gave was perfectly reasonable as I knew nothing about her circumstances. The answer I gave is correct. In the (British) WI there is no need to have the BC translated, therefore no expense, which is what I believe the OP was worried about....
