Subject : wine alternative

hey there girlies,
is everyone putting wine on their tables for the meal? its done quite alot where i live but it does add a crazy amount to the budget. even if we get wine cheap and take it to the venue, they are charging £8 to open each bottle and we need approx 50 bottles. and me n H2B dont even drink.
My friend suggested non-alcoholic and a non-sickening alcoholic cocktail to put on tables for the toast and to make them so they match the colour scheme. wat u think of that idea?
any other suggestion more than welcome
Karen

Hi Cody,

Just what your friend suggested really!!

Me and H2b are not big wine lovers either, so we are having cocktails on arrival, but still putting the wine on tables & Groomie and I will have what we want for the meal, my friend had a really yummy rose for her drinks reception which I think we will have for the toast!!

£8 is quite good for corkage the hotel where I work charges £15!!! Something to do with keeping profit margin up?????

Our venue is only £3 corkage (SMUG SMUG SMUG!!!!) but if you don't drink then don't feel obliged to provide it. Do what you feel comfortable with.

One way to get around corkage could be to get the MASSIVE jeroboams. As long as the waiting staff are happy to carry them you get around the issue of corkage. Bottles of spirits go a lot further for that corkage cost though!

thanks petal. my venuue has every eventuality covered. she only allows you to bring 70cl bottles of wine to the place. nothing else. if it was reasonable, id b happy to pay the corkage but i think most hotels are a rip off when it comes to this issue. think i will be goin with spirits/cocktails
how are your plans going

I was also having a moan about corkage the other day!! Is it in the terms and conditions that you can't have larger than 70cl? I'd be tempted just to pretend i didn't know and bring them on the day! Weddings are such a rip-off really, it's one of those things that really makes me angry! (breathe...breeeeeathe) But i think cocktails is a much better idea, as i can't think of anyone that doesn't like a good cocktail!!

hi petal (cute name)
yeh they have 70cl bottles in terms and conditions. im with you, weddings far too expensive. at the end of the day, it one day, yes itl be one of the best days of a couples life, but should you be left pure skint after it. i plan to stick within a sensible budget and bet my wedding is as nice as anyones. and il hopefully ava few quid left for something else

Hi Cody,

I had exactly the same issue but even though my partner and I don't drink wine we've decided to buy a certain amount of bottles and once they're gone the guests will just have to drink still water.
I also really hate champagne and sparkling wine, so for the toasts we're having sparkling elderflower water. Much cheaper and the kids can join in too!

I am sending menu cards with the RSVP because our venue is letting us have a great selection but only paying for 1 option... We are also putting wine / soft drink option on the menu card... We're only paying 5£ a bottle for still or sparkling wine but I hate wastage so am asking people what they want...
As for alternatives for wine... Unless it is soft drinks, which would not go down well at our wedding... there are few beverages that are as cost effective as wine
