Subject : have you been to the maldives? please help...
Hi. we are going to the Maldives in August for 2 weeks all inclusive but i have no idea how much spending money to take! we arent in to water sports but i imagine we will do a snorkelling trip further out from a boat and do a dolphin cruise, also possibly candlelit dinner on the beach mid honeymoon for my 25th birthday. was just wondering how much everyone else took and was it enough/too much? I really have no idea, im guessing if we didnt take enough they accept cards?

Me me me. Put it this way as i didnt do water sports etc and we were stuck on an island I only spent bout 100. That was half of the bill for room service bits and bobs and a candle lit dinner on beach fo rmy birthday. As soon as we got off the island on the last day and got to the airport i spent bout £200 on perfume etc.
H2b spent bout £600 as he was a diver. Its really a place to dive etc or just relax for 2 weeks on island. xx

Are you all inclusive? I've been 3 times (not for honeymoons!!) and all in each time. I have always only taken about £50-£100 because there isn't a lot to spend it on. Even boat trips arent expensive. But you'll have an amazing time howver much you spend - it;s beautiful.x

hi. thanks for your replies. we are all inclusive so i wasnt sure what I would spend money on. i originally thought £500 which would cover the dolphin trip, a snorkelling trip (diving looks wonderful but I dont fancy it personally), tips for the staff and then a meal for my 25th. talking to h2b last night I think £500 is too much and £250 is more sensible? hI Brown 2b,
What island are you going to??
We went to Meeru in May where h2b proposed over a candlelite dinner.. We spent just over 1000
But h2b done 2 or 3 dives and the candlelite dinner was pretty expensive as we had plenty bottles of champs..
The drink that isnt included on all inclusive is very expensive.. i think it was bout 180 dollars for a bottle of jack daniels!!
We also had a few breakfast in beds which isnt included on ai..
Our island accepted cards, once your bill went over 400 i think you had to pay.. as we had to sign for everything and pay when we reached the max..
We also bought sunglasses cigarettes etc from the airport..
You certainly wont be dissapointed.. i must say im very jealous! heheh
hope you have a fab time

hi. i wanted to go to meeru originally but couldnt get the room we wanted. now going to chaaya island. its a difficult call! how romantic a proposal, my h2b proposed at the foot on the angel of the north on our 3rd anniversary! im not a massive drinker, so shouldnt spend much on drink. i do love the airport shops but was in lanzarote in march and bought loads of perfume and treated myself to some lovely armani glasses.
we bought snorkelling sets last week as I heard they were really expensive to hire/buy over there.
really cant wait now, injections are all out the way so im getting excited. only 55 days till honeymoon!

You will be spoilt when its your birthday there. The candle light dinner on bday was wow. I had a cake, everyone sung happy birthday to me and then they decorated the whole room with flowers at night when they turned the beds down. That will be 2 years agon in september when i was there. xx

everyone seems to have an amazing time, just finished buying all my clothes the other day. wish i was as organised for the wedding. its h2b birthday 2 days before the wedding and then mine midway through the honeymoon so will definitely do a candlelit dinner on the beach. did you tell them in advance that it was your birthday?
last august, andys mum got us one of those honeymoon savings jars which you cant open until you take a can opener to it. we have been putting any £1 or £2 coins in since we got it and now its not far off full, according to the side it will have about £400 pound in. really easy way to save without noticing it and will be enough to cover spending money and a bit of extra towards airport parking etc...

They knew as they have to take your passports etc. My h2b organised the dinner on the beach, everything else they sorted without me knowing, Im going to look at my pics again. that was a holiday to remember. It was my birthday gift from h2b.
He arranged with work etc for me to have the time off, So everyone knew at work for a whole day before me. he surprised me 6 days before we flew that he had booked a holiday.
You will have an amazing holiday xx

that is amazing and so romantic!
I have a feeling h2b may already have contacted them because I asked if I could go into his email account to get the holiday booking confirmation from first choice and he said yes so long as I didnt read the emails from the hotel!
just been on the website, nice to read they start breakfast at 7.30! breakfast times normally kill me when in europe at like 9am as I get up at 5.30 for work and even on my days off im up at the crack of dawn. we will be there at 730 everyday!

Hi Brown 2 be..
Thats the one down side of Meeru they always overbook.. and it was a major issue whilst we were there.. we met a couple out there on there honeymoon and they got downgraded for the first night as there room wasnt ready.. but it all worked out ok in the end.. as they spent the last 4 days on veligandu and upgraded accomodation...
Definately take the snorkel set.. and if you have a underwater camera i would take that too..
Also i highly recommend... elemis tan accelerator..
you apply it 2 weeks before you go.. and you will be amazed by the colour your skin will go..
Also im not to sure about your island .. but on ours it was a no shoes no news.. i took a pair of sandals with me and i didnt wear them once!!heaven!!
Im trying to think of any other tips.. also i would recommend .. taking a hair treatment with you as the heat is very intense... i used tigi split end mender.. and just left it in during the day..
I agree with Ellie baba.. you will be spoilt.. they love to celebrate all occasions!! and honestly cant do enough for you..
My only downside of the maldives is... im hooked now and dont want to go anywhere else!!
wish you all the best..
x

any chance of going back bubsy? I can see my falling in love with it too and wanting to go back. Although next year I want to do florida if we can afford it - will find out 2 weeks before the wedding whether h2b is loosing his job.
i have heard that about meeru before, but when we couldnt get the room we wanted we didnt continue looking. its silly really as its fairly easy not to over book and then they wouldnt get criticised for it.
tried getting the snorkel set into the suitcase and it didnt fit so will probably be at the metro centre today (much to h2b disguist) looking at bigger suitcases. I ordered a 5mega pixel underwater digital camera last weekend, it came on wednesday. hope the pics come out good, already had it in the fish tank!
that tan stuff sounds good, where do you get it? hadnt even thought about hair treatment products! I have bought a pair of sandles which will travel in and then some just married flip flops (couldnt help it). Andys boss has got us mr and mrs beach towels as our wedding gift.
it does sound amazing, thanks for all the tips! ive already approached the question of an anniversary trip back if I love it!!
maybe I need to be getting organised to the same degree for the wedding!!

But at the moment we are thinking of going back for our honeymoon as thats the place he proposed.. spoilt for choice hehe..
snap.. we wanted to goto florida and new york... but unfortunately im now hooked to the maldives.. hehe
oh no thats terrible i wish you all the best and will cross my fingers for you!!.. not a great time 2 weeks before.. is everything paid for already?
when is your big day?? are you going on your honeymoon straight after?
We dont know what to do about the honeymoon.. as we are getting married in france and wanted to be out there at least a week before the ceremony..
which means we will have be having at least 3 weeks off work in one go..which im not sure how our works will feel about that..
I know thats my thoughts exact!! very greedy if you ask me!!
oh dear lol.... i had extra room from all the shoes i removed hehe..
is it a vivitar by any chance? as mine is also 5mp?
ours came out great!!
I got mine from salonskincare.. they had 2 for the price of one on.. its not cheap but definately worth it!!
hehehe i think i would be the same with the flip flops!wow love the towels!! how thoughful dont think our bosses will get us anything lol..
It truelly is paradise,.. and i can see an anniversary, birthday, halloween etc trips coming up hehehe
