Subject : Suddenly need a special license with 18 days to go!
ARGH.
Had a meeting with the vicar to go over the ceremony yesterday and after making a casual remark about being surprised which parish I was named as belonging to in our Banns (we went to hear them being read at the church we're marrying in, which is h2b's mum's parish). The vicar reacted with horror and it turns out that my banns were read in the wrong parish (administrative error), and we have to get married under a special license.
The church are going to pay as it was their mistake and the vicar says it can come through in just two days, but I don't know what's needed for the forms or what the process is. I can't find a website which tells me exactly what happens.
Has anyone had a special license? What did you need to provide? Did everything go smoothly?
I just do not need this stress!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as it's your vicar's mistake and he told you he would take care of the problem.
Obviously, there will be some paperwork you need to provide, and I'm assuming your vicar will already have copies and can supply to the relevant people...Just call him up and ask what if anything you need to do
Then sit on his case and make sure this is taken care of....

I can't give any first hand advice I'm afraid but I went to a wedding last summer where a similar thing happened with the banns and they had to arrange a license with about a week to go. It all worked out fine in the end so I'm sure that it will go smoothly for you too, especially if the church are helping you with it. Good luck! x

We are getting a special licence as we are marrying in a Royal Peculiar and it is fairly simple. You fill out a form with your details and a brief explanation of why you need the licence, then the vicar fills out the other side supporting your application. You swear an affidavit in front of your vicar that there is no legal reason why cannot marry and it is signed and sent to Canterbury. You get a lovely big certificate with the seal of the Archbishop. It normally costs £145. They can issue then in min about 2 h (I think for emergency wedding in hospitals and the like) so you have loads of time.
You'll just need to meet with your vicar again soon and fill in the form, swear the affidavit.
No problem, don't stress. xxx

We got married in Glasgow and I think the Scottish laws are different but I woke one morning in horror realising I hadn't left enough time to apply for our marriage license. I am a born organiser and nearly died of shock realising I had overlooked this totally crucial detail! However, after the jobsworth at the Registrar's making us feel about two feet tall, we got the license that day and all was well. I'm sure it will be fine for you, and it sounds as though the vicar is sorting it. Good luck!
