Subject : The NEW "My custom made wedding dress thread".

Lots of b2b's out there are having their dresses custom made both in the UK and overseas and i thought it would be nice to have a new thread home for us all to share progress, ask for opinions, and share all the lovely pics.

IMPORTANT, READ THIS! PLEASE DO NOT POST ABOUT MAKING COPIES OF DESIGNER DRESSES AS THIS MAY INFRINGE COPY WRITE. IF YOU DO, THIS THREAD WILL BE DELETED BY THE MODERATOR.

IF POSSIBLE PLEASE ALSO AVOID MENTIONING THE NAME OF THE COMPANY MAKING YOUR DRESS AS THE MODERATOR MAY ALSO CONSIDER THIS AS ADVERTISING.

SO, rules over, and enjoy!

Ok, so i will go first! I hope Katie gets her dress collected from the airport today. If anyone hears, could you post on this thread the outcome?

My dress update: had a flurry of mails today. I am having a bit of trouble describing to the designer, what kind of beadwork i want on my dress! Language barriers are part of the problem, but i suspect what i am asking for is a but complicated too!
Anyone else had any discussion about how they wanted their beading? Did you find it difficult to explain?

K xx

Hi all, good to see there's a new thread already:) Hopefully we can keep this one longer.
Kira000, when did you order your dress? I ordered mine last week, but I haven't heard anything after that, only that they received all details. Just want to make sure they won't forget about me :(
(Annie told me she will confirm details this weekend, so if not, I'll email them on Monday first thing! LOL)

Hi Diane! As long as everyone remembers the YAYW new uber strict rules, hopefully this thread will stay!
I ordered my dress first thing on Monday, and got my first email yesterday. I think the reason being that because i asked for specific custom things, not a copy (of course, lol), they just wanted to clarify all the bits to get it confirmed in order to put it in their system.
I shouldn't worry if you havent heard straight away, Like Annie Said, give them till Monday, probably by 11am ish, and if not heard by then, just drop them a mail.

Good job Kira on finding out the rules!! No wonder the threads kept getting deleted. It's been interesting for me because in the U.S., designers do not have the right to copyright an article of clothing because it is a functional item. You can only get a trademark for the label and any distinctive logos on the clothing.

Well, i am only surmising what the problem was with the other threads from what people have said the moderator complained about in his emails to them! We know they are strict about advertising from all the warnings and deletions. Copyright is the only other issue really to justify removal of the thread...

The email I got didn't say anything about advertising, but only mentioned the copyright and design issues, but that definitely makes sense. I'm going to be safe and not mention the name of the store in any more of my posts.

I'm a bit worried about Katy as well. Hopefully she'll find the new thread and will let us know. But I can imagine she has other things on her mind at the moment!

Ooh Kira you rebel! i got one of those emails. I have to say I agree with Caltron, a dress is a dress so I am not sure how exactly it can have copyright over it and I think a big fuss is being made over nothing considering how the high street is full of copies of designer items, with subtle changes!

I was very happy with my custom made dress and cannot wait to wear it next week! I want to know about Katie too - fingers crossed!

Hi Saph.

He He.. well, i just think it a little unfair to not allow the general conversation. So, if we have to "play the game" to have it, so that YAYW is covering its ar*e, then so be it,

I guess the problem is the counterfeit arguement- that the designers might feel they are losing out on sales if their dresses are being copied.

I suspect that the market for custome made dresses is different to the one for the designer gowns, but if it keeps them happy!

Hi Ladies,

My aunt is a designer and is making my dress for me which is very exciting. I have found exactly what I want so hopefully it will turn out as I hope it will. She lives abroad so it will be a bit of a hassle trying it on and stuff but I'm sure it will be worth it.

What are you guys having made? Good luck! :)

Hi Kira, yes I did object to some of the terms being bandied around on the other thread in GC about "fake" dresses. So many BM dresses look the same! I am not walking around in my dress saying "have you seen my dress, it's by so and so" and pretending that I have bought a designer dress, I'm just saying I've got a made to measure dress.

And some people have had bad experiences with low quality dresses and assume that all manufacturers are the same. My dress is of far superior quality that anything on the high street but not everyone realises that there are good and bad manufacturers out there.

I couldn't agree with you more saph, in any case, people go on like that because they think they are 'privileged' or something, to be getting an expensive dress. No offence to them but I think it's foolishness, it would be for me anyway because I don't see the point in spending that amount of money when I could put it towards a good investment like a house or something not a dress for a few hours.

If you want to waste (because that's what I think it is) your money that way then so be it (it's your money) but I don't see why they should be bothered by people who want to save. At the end of the day, no-one is claiming to have got their dresses from any of those stupidly expensive designers and 99% of your guests will never truly know or care how much or how little you spent on it. AARRGGGHHHH

Anyway, does anyone know what Katy's name was then maybe we could search for her or something. Sad
