Subject : Guest wearing cream dress?

I've just learned that one of the guests at my very small wedding is planning on wearing a cream coloured lace and satin dress. I feel a bit miffed about this, though I'm not really sure why. I suppose I just feel that this is the one occasion where you should be confident that no one is going to turn up in something similar.

I decided just to forget about it and not let it bother me, but I made the mistake of mentioning how I felt to my mum, who can't understand that I'm bothered about. She seems to have done a poll of people she works with, who all seem to think it's fine to wear white/cream/ivory to a wedding and that I'm just being old-fashioned.

Maybe I am being a bit selfish, but I just wish guests would steer clear of white & cream in the first place, and this would never be an issue!

its understandable that you'd prefer to be the only one but I don't think its a problem. People will know you're the bride and will only focus on you anyway and probably not even notice someone else in cream

I wouldn't worry

I think it's a total NO! I have always heard that you are not supposed to wear white/cream/ivory at a wedding.

I must admit, I've never really thought about it before and wore a white trouser suit to a family wedding a couple of years ago and didn't get an ghastly looks! But perhaps wearing a trouser suit is a little different to a lace and satin dress...which does sound a bit weddingy?!

I personally would be a bit miffed, and would never wear cream to anyone elses wedding. But that said, if someone chose to i wouldn't say anything, because everyone at my wedding will know that im the bride anyway!! x

I personally think it is a big no no to wear white/cream/ivory to a wedding and actually a little rude. i am wearing pink but still wouldn't be comfortable with someone wearing that colour.

Not as bad as one girl I know whose MIL turned up late wearing a black suit and refused to attend the reception!

i would hire you floristflo - could i request vimto or ribena instead of ketchup though?!

i think guests should stay clear of any white/cream dress or gold if thats the colour the bride has chosen. at my friends wedding a girl wore a two piece - corset style white top and skirt - i think most people thought it quite rude!!x

i've got 3 more weddings to go to this year and they're all in summer so white or cream would be perfect and summery but out of respect for the other brides - my friends and relatives, i wouldn't wear white or cream as it detracts the attention from them - it's their day and they've paid a darn site more for their dress for their day than you or i have.

Sorry i sound like i'm ranting, i just get so frustrated at people who think it'll be ok to wear white to someone elses wedding, unless for some reason i.e a black and white themed wedding where everyone has to dress in black and white they are "permitted"
Basically i think that unless you are advised that a version of white is acceptable attire you must not even think about it to wear to a wedding.

i can tell you all now, if i have any guest especially a relative turn up in white/ivory/cream or any other version of that colour i think i might just go mad and cry the whole day.

i love the idea of a hit girl!!

My mum did ask if she could wear cream to my wedding and i told her she is not to wear it at all (plus the fact she's getting married again herself this year and so she'll have her chance at wearing cream/white whatever shade she likes and make the rules for her own day!)

What do you think about white dresses with black patterns/details etc - do you think those are ok to wear to a wedding?

i hope i don't annoy someone by my rant - i was just errm ranting

Sarah x

Hi

My mum is wearing a floor length cream dress with brown flower stitching on it. It's not a problem as I dont think people will look at someone who is wearing cream and think that she is trying to look like a bride as only the bride will look like the bride!! No matter what anyone wears there will only be one person at the wedding who all eyes will be on and that will be you, so dont worry x

I think it's ok if your white dress is covered with a black pattern...otherwise I would not do it. If the bride is a bit stressed that might be just the small detail to make her burst in tears and I would not like to be responsible for that.
