Done.....new thread started for us Meldrum House b2b's

Hope all you lovely ladies are organised for Xmas and have a fab time when it comes!! The fishbowl centrepieces sound lovely. We were thinking about tall thin lily vases but just trying to get flower ideas just now so that might all change lol

Hadn't heard about the new room rates. Checking back emails she did say they would be reviewed the beginning of the year.....how much have they gone up by? Girlies, might be something to factor in for 2012 / 2013 too as no doubt they will try to put them up again.

I think we are pretty organised. All the big things are booked so it's just the smaller details....starting to think about hairstyles, jewellry, flowers, decorations and stuff like that now. Will be full steam ahead in the New Year

Oh yeah.....knew there was something I forgot to mention! For centrepiece hire have a look at Fairytale Events (used to be Fairytale Flowers) http://www.fairytale-events.eu/default.html.

We are getting our chair covers from them and the girls are lovely! They have some images in their centrepiece section on the website but sure they would be able to help if you have other ideas. Good luck xx

Yay! Liking the Meldrum House Thread, although they are not my favourite people right now!

What rates do you all have for your rooms? The last ones I had were £110 for 13 and then £140 for the rest. This has now gone up DRAMATICALLY. The four poster rooms are up to £180! (discounted rate!) I am so upset/annoyed I don't think any of my guests will want to stay at the new prices.
They are also reviewing all their costs for menus and wine etc - looking like the costs for that are going to go up too now. It's only 6 months to go it's not enough time to try and save even more money when we were already struggling!!

I will try out that table centre website although I might not be able to afford any now!!!!!!!

Aw no, that's not so good they are not in your good books just now!! I've just looked back and they quoted us £120 for standard rooms up to £180 for the four-poster rooms.Although they gave us that quote back in Feb / Mar so not sure why you are only finding out now!?! Not sure what the rooms in the Stables are classed as (executive / superior) so they will probably be £140 / £160!? There are only 2 four poster rooms in the main house and one of them should be complimentary as the bridal suite on the night so might not be as bad as you are expecting......still a shock though I know but maybe ask them for a breakdown of exactly what each room will be!?!

Maybe see if you can haggle with them......don't know if I would have the balls but might be worth a shot

Merry Christmas girls.

I had better put all my Christmas money in my wedding pot as the prices will have gone up a few times by 2013

Hey, Sorry only just back on here after the Christmas holi's!
Yeah they obviously didn't bother to tell us about the changes to room rates when they happened, ridiculous!
We have managed to negotiate with them a bit, and have swapped some of the discounted rooms around so that we get the best deal, but still not great, not sure if as many people will be able to stay now either which is a bit rubbish, but will just have to see how things go. Calmed down a bit now after my original outrage!

Can't belive that's us past the 6 month mark now, it's getting so close! Time to get organised I think! I am on a mission to sort out table centres. Can't decide between tall thin black vases or my black fishbowls, it's for the marquee and we are only having probably 6 or 7 tables plus the top table (so should only be using half of the marquee). I thought tall ones might make the marquee look a bit more full? But then you have the issue of them getting in peoples way...also I do like the black fishbowl idea, but then will they just get lost? Any thoughts? What sort of decorations is everyone else planning for Meldrum?

Hi there!

I am potentially looking at Meldrum House for our wedding and although originally from Aberdeenshire, I now live in London and I haven't been able to talk to anyone at the hotel today so I thought I'd see if anyone knew the answers to my questions...

I have a maximum of 70 guests for the ceremony, dinner and reception and we would be looking to have the entire day at MH. Which rooms would be best for each of these elements? I'm worried that 70 is too large to have everything inside the house but that 70 is too small for the marquee for the reception and would look empty... does anyone know rough room capabilities? The info is not on their website as far as I can see

Congrats to you all and thank you for any help anyone can offer!

Hiya

Happy New Year to all the Medlrum House b2b's!

randerson, we get married this year, how exciting Glad you managed to sort something out with them re the room prices! I was told they were issuing new menus etc in January, excited to see how different they are and then get choosing our food and drinks! I've had the same dilemma with centrepieces and still not 100% decided although I'm swaying towards tall centrepieces, as long as the vases are tall and thin so they don't get in the way (hopefully) although the fishbowls will look lovely too, sorry not much help lol

Jillypie, they have the conference room in the stables too which holds up to a maximum of 100. We originally wanted to get married there but think we will have just over the 100 mark so it would be a wee bit squished. I'm not sure how much the other room in the hotel holds (the gold room.....not sure it's actual name!) but you could potentially have your ceremony in the stables, meal in the room at the back of the house (gold room) and reception in the marquee. Probably best to confirm with the hotel but don't think you would have any problems

Happy New Year Ladies...how exciting that some of you can say you are getting married THIS year..I'm excited I can say two years now instead of three

Is anyone going to the Wedding Exhibition in Aberdeen the weekend of the 15th/16th? I'm in two minds whether to go for a look or not or just wait til next year..I'm tempted though!

Jillypie - we have about 70 day guests coming, and we are planning to have the ceremony in the gold room (for a ceremony think the capacity is 70) or outside if the weather is nice. Then drinks reception in the conference suite. Wedding breakfast in the marquee, although I am a little bit worried it will be a bit empty looking - hoping that I can get the band set up before the meal so that that is all taking up the other half of the room! Otherwise I think that the 'gold room' can seat 70 for the meal if you have long tables instead of rounds.
Not sure how the conference suite in the stables would be for the meal?

I'm hoping that some places will get back to me soon about the hire of the tablecentres so I can make a decision! My aim is to get that, which rooms I am using, and my menu's decided on this month so that I can get a realistic budget from Meldrum asap!

Don't think I am going to go to the wedding exhibition this time, I always go and never really get anywhere from it! saying that I might go, always good to try and get a sneaky discount! Infact I probably will!
I found with my bookings that I saved a lot of money by booking far in advance so I think it might be worth it, even if it's just for a nosey!

xx
