Subject: Poem in invites for cash instead of gift list...
Hi,
We want to ask for cash towards the honeymoon instead of a gift list as we have no room for gifts anyway and it would help the budget. I was thinking of putting a poem in each invite and came up with this:
We do not have a gift list
So please don't feel obliged
But if your feeling generous
There is something we'd like
Donations would be welcomed
Towards our honeymoon
More details on our website
Love the bride and groom

Does it sound ok? I don't want it to be cheaky at all and it should be cute and casual. Is this ok or put the thinking cap back on?

Yours sounds good - this is what we put on our website:
Your presence at our wedding & London Blessing is present enough. We are sending out our invitations in the hope that you will join in or celebrations. However, if a gift is your intention, we’ll take this opportunity to mention that rather than something we have already got, we would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot. Most importantly though we request that you come to our wedding as our guest!

I am so glad that we aren't the only ones out there asking for money instead of gifts!
I came across this lovely poem which we are going to use in our invites:
We hope you won't feel offended
By this our Wedding request
But in our situation
We felt it would be best
We don't need kettles or toasters
Or any other stuff
Been together for a while now
We've got quite enough
The things we need are rather large
Too much to ask of you
So a gift of money
Will help our wish come true
But if our idea does not appeal
This is what to do
Come along and join our party
Our gift will be seeing you
We thought it was a rather nice way of asking for money! Some of which we may use for our honeymoon - thinking of going on safari so would use some of the cash to perhaps do a hot air balloon ride whilst we were out there!

Hi All, This is the poem that we used as we are going to USA for our honeymoon so decided to ask for dollars.
We know it’s not traditional,
It’s not the way it’s done,
But instead of a wedding list
Wed like a bit of sun.
Please do not think of us as rude,
Please do not take offence,
We do not want to upset you,
Its not the way it’s meant.
We’ve lived together quite a while,
And all the bills have been paid.
We’ve got our plates, our pots and pans,
Our plans have all been made.
So if you’d like to give a gift,
To help us celebrate.
Some Dollars for a honeymoon
We would appreciate!!
hope this helps - I found it on here a while ago. carol xx

Hi Girls,
I don't mind you pinching my poem - I also pinched it from another fellow bride who got married about a year ago!!! We are not getting married until July 2009, but at least it's one thing sorted!!
Carol: I like your poem asking for dollars for a honeymoon - at least then people know their money is going towards a good cause and like ejhoweljones says if you get vouchers you are not always sure where they will be for!

a friend of mine had a 'wedding list' of honeymoon things that people could buy them. it was done in a jokey way with the gifts ranging from 'magazines to read on the plane' 'one cocktail each to drink on the beach' and 'one nights accommodation'. people then just marked which one they wanted to pay for, and gave them the money. It made it a bit more personal than just giving cash, but the bride and groom still got what they wanted!
