.....that the Mother of the Bride outfit would become the hardest part of planning our wedding!

I picked the 3rd dress I tried on, my bridesmaid picked a dress in about 15 mins on the first shopping trip we went on. I have so far spent a full day going round the shops and god knows how long searching on the internet and my mum has found NOTHING that ticks all the boxes. Why are there so many hideous MOTB outfits out there? Most of them she wouldn't be seen dead in. Or they look too young - strapless or spagetti straps etc. She just wants something not too revealing, a v-neck rather than round, either with a 3/4 length sleeve or with a jacket with 3/4 length sleeves (jacket must not be collarless type), something that maybe nips her in a bit and shows off her figure, and in a nice dressy fabric. Are we asking too much?

How is everyone else getting on with the search? Are we just being too picky?

Same here, my poor mum is really struggling and it doesn't help that my FI's mum has found something easily and its totally the opposite of what my mum would be comfortable in.

Don't know what area you are in, but if you are near East Midlands my Mum got just the kind of outfit you are after from a shop called Dalrymples they are in Long Eaton. They specialise in Mother of the bride/Ascot style outfits and have fascinators and hats specifically to fit certain outfits.

It's been an absolute nightmare for my Mum, trying to find a nice wedding day outfit for her! Less than 2 months to go now and she hasn't found one suitable thing! Ur right - it's all either too young or too old. It's been quite demoralising for her too, as my MIL2b is a sylph-like whisp at 50 yrs old, who found something on her first shopping trip :S

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at those links and forward them onto my mum. I think we looked in Jacques Vert (so many shops, I forget now!) when we trawled Meadowhall at the weekend but we'll have a look at the website too. Phase Eight have some lovely things in but she seemed to find something wrong with each one.

I think she's worried about looking like mutton dressed as lamb. She's 60 but a very young looking 60, so I keep suggesting things I think she would look nice in but she thinks they are too young for her. But then she looks at typical MOTB outfits and they all seem too old for her. There's seriously a gap in the market here! lol

Oh well, 7 and a half months left for her to find something! Good look on the search folks!

What about this? It fits everything - v neck, 3/4 sleeved jacket, nips in at the waist - it's gorgeous! Plus matching bag and fascinator too!
