What are your alternative wedding cake ideas? I'm feeling very uninspired by many ideas I've seen so far, I'm considering doing cupcakes but that's quite standard now - maybe individual chocolate brownies or flapjacks, do you think that could work?

Brownies and flapjacks sound amazing!! I'd love that - would look really funky!

We're having a wedding cake of cheese, but also a croquembouche - basically a pile of profiteroles with spun sugar and almonds. Neither of us are 'cake' people, but the pile looks lush, and using it as pudding for dinner as well.

Have you checked out Choccywoccydoodah? They do some really amazing cakes - might be worth a look for inspiration if nothing else? Think you add a .com for their website.

Those whoopie pies look nice! How about cake pops - I haven't heard of anyone using these at a wedding yet.

OMG my mouth just literally watered, I would destroy those doughnuts.

Was thinking of getting cake pops to go with canapes at drinks reception.

Ooooh....I want CHOCOLATE now!

I'm hvaing a hard time trying to come up with cake ideas. MIL2B is making it and her idea of alternative is rectangle not round
I really want a steampunk cake but they are a bit too 'out there' for her. Thing is, we also need to convince her that a cake iced in white will look pretty daft at our wedding as nothing is white.
I know she's really good at making cakes, but she's adamant that at least one tier would be fruit cake (which I hate but h2b likes). I just have a bugging feeling I'm going to end up with a traditional wedding cake in a non-traditional wedding. Now, that could be quite alternative....

Could you maybe go for more 'steampunk' style colours, coppers, blacks, greys those sort of things..

With sort of colours that fit, and get olds coggs etc to go into the cake!!
