The thing you have to think of, is when you get back from your honeymoon what will you have to remind you of your big day? A photographer doesn't just turn up and take some pictures, there are hours of planning before and days of post production and album design afterwards, a good photographer will spend at least a full week working on your wedding.
The advice I would give when selecting your photographer, is first of all look at there work, do you like the style?
The next step is to meet with them, there should be absolutely no obligation for you to book them just because you have met them. You need to make sure that you like them as a person, they are going to spend a lot of time with you on your big day, sometimes personalities clash. Look at more of there work, look and feel the wedding albums, do you like them, is it what you want?
When you have chosen your photographer you should get a contract, this is in place to ensure that you get what you want from the day as well as to protect you and the photographer should things go wrong, and is usually a requirement from the photographers insurance company. Make sure the contract covers everything that you have asked for. You can negotiate this before you sign and pay your deposit.
Finally and most importantly, keep in touch with your photographer, you want to ensure that they are going to be around a year from now when it's your big day. Thankfully a photographer going bust is rare but does happen.
I hope this is of help to you, feel free to ask if you need any more advice about wedding photographers
Thanks
