Subject: What did you
ask for as gifts for your wedding? and what gifts did you get?

Hope it isn't too cheeky to ask, but it is a part of the wedding planning process that doesn't get mentioned much, so I thought this question would be best in here.

I really hope you can help me

We don't want any presents so we will send a little note with our invites requesting money instead of presents.

We didn't ask for anything at all! If anyone asked what we wanted we just said 'no don't be silly!'.

In the end we were given an awful lot of money, an awful lot if vouchers and a few lovely unique gifts.

The gifts we got were:

a beautiful coloured glass set of wine glasses, shot glasses and candle sticks.
China tea set (our guest flew back from hong kong for the wedding)
Dinner for two at a fancy restaurant
High tea for two at a posh hotel
£600 voucher for an art gallery
Special mono recordings of bob Dylan and John Lennon
Champagne
A Beatles pop art canvas painted by the guest

Other than that we just got tons of money and debanhams/John Lewis/m&s vouchers.

I personally wouldn't ask just for money as I had an invitation asking this a few years back and I was a little offended! Not only that, but you are likely to get a lot of money anyway. If id asked for money alone then i wouldn't have got some of the incredibly unique and generous gifts that we did get. The variety and surprise was nice!

We asked for contributions to our honeymoon fund given how old we are and have all we need. We got about 1K

but we also got ...
various vouchers
a picture of Brighton where we got engaged
a picture of our favourite place in Cornwall
2 stools in our colours handmade by my brother in law (bless him)
salt and pepper shakers
a wedding box
a framed print in the Stay Calm font with our table names on
and a horseshoe from a neighbour which I will treasure forever
a vase with a pic of our venue engraved in it
and my daughter did 2 toiletry bags with things for our honeymoon

Hi

I know this thread is a little old but we asked for gift vouchers for Thomas Cook.

All our guests knew that we cannot afford a holiday and we generally stay at home with the ocasional camping weekend, they also know that I have never been abroad or flown or been on a cruise so they were really rather quite happy to give us vouchers as they knew this holiday really will be very special in more ways than one for both of us, and knowing they contributed meant they felt part of our excitement too.

Hubby kept the honeymoon secret not telling anyone at all, all our guests loved the idea of a secret honeymoon - joining in the fun of trying to bribe him to tell!

The honeymoon was a cruise around the western med.

We set up a list on www.blisslist.co.uk - it was great. You can ask for whatever you'd like and the guests pay for the items, and you get the money. We asked for a variety of things, like a new blender and some towels, but also different excursions & dinners etc on our honeymoon. I really recommend Bliss List - they have a fixed price for commission too. xxx

We asked for money or holiday vouchers towards our honeymoon - giving details of which holiday vouchers.

We got:

£50 in holiday vouchers

Approx £2,000 in cash/cheques

A personalised box with names/wedding date & guest names with a bottle of bubbly in

Another bottle of bubbly

A pot plant

2 tesco vouchers, 1 for £20 the other for £25

We had some guests who gave just a card & no gift (which was fine)

Whilst we appreciated everyone's gift, we did find the pot plant & tesco's vouchers a bit odd, but each to their own !!
Whilst we did appreciate

We're having a money gift list whicih means we don't come right out and ask for cash, but on the list theres a few things we'd really like for our honeymoon like romantic dinners & champagne in the hotel room. Plus theres a £5 donation for Cancer Research and a few small things for our home. As items are bought and paid for, the money goes into our wedding saving's account. It's definitely an easier option than asking for cash. H2B doesn't want the site posted publically, but you can see examples of how it works from the website homepage at
