Subject: has anyone else planned a wedding whilst at uni?
Hi, I'm only turned 20 & have literally just started uni. I'm in my home town so I'm living at home to keep costs down, but I was wondering how many you have planned a wedding whilst studying at uni. Our date is 6th June 2014 so it'll be my final year & I should have literally just finished when we have the wedding. My h2b has voice his concern over me planning & studying as he wants me to do well but we can't afford to wait otherwise we'll never be able to get a mortgage (his not well paid - infact his underpaid for what he does!)

I just wanted some advice really & see how it went for others!

I didn't plan my wedding while I was at uni, but I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to if you are committed to it. You'll just need to be quite strict with yourself about timetabling study and wedding planning, perhaps foregoing a little of the social side (NOT all of it - it's what uni's all about! ). You'll also have the lovely long holidays to do a lot of the planning - what a luxury!

Can I just ask why you think you won't be able to get a mortgage without being married? We were fine sorting it out as an unmarried couple. Just wondering if you need any advice on that side, not trying to suggest you shouldn't get married!

I am just starting my third and final year of uni, getting married August next year as soon as we both graduate and before real life starts So looking forward to taking that next step together.

Anyway, we got engaged just before we went to uni so have been planning entirely apart and whilst studying although we didn't start planning till last summer (after first year completed). It is hard as when we get together, the last thing we want to discuss and talk about is weddings as we only see each other every month or so so there's more important things to catch up on!! However, I made a massive list on our spreadsheet (60+ things TO DO!) and this summer, as soon as we were both home and together, we blasted through the list and now only have last minute things to do!!

It's not easy but it's fun. Got the next two semesters to worry about dissertations and placements and assignments so taking a bit of a break from the planning (I bet I'll be here every day still though!) and then the planning can return around May-June. Although we'll both be looking for jobs and a place to live at that time too! - I sometimes think we're crazy.

Let me know if you want any help or anything!

We planned our wedding during my PhD. We got engaged just after I started my 2nd year and got married last month at the end of my 3rd year. It can be done as long as you're organised and have a timetable.
I'm running the Race For Life in memory of my Dad, who passed away last year from oesophageal cancer. Please sponsor me! http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/nicolakay545

starting my Phd in January, its not going to stop my wedding arrangements, although I am buying/planning loads now as I know I'll be snowed under as soon as the real work starts

We got engaged during my last (4th) year at uni; I've now finished and am starting a PhD - we're getting married in May! It's chaotic at the moment, but hopefully thinsg will come together.

I'm planning our wedding while we are both doing PhDs, it's hard work but we are just trying to save as best we can (it's just taking a little longer than it would if we both had jobs!) x

im in my final year of nursing, which means i'll be in placement up until 1 week before our wedding (18/8/12), so i'll be super stressed haha. It can be done though, i think! I'm only in uni now once a week, so we've utilised the free time ive had recently and got all the big stuff sorted. Then just the little final details to organise during reading weeks and holidays.
PLUS, you have plenty of time on your side and with good planning you could have most of your big day sorted before you even get to 3rd year!! Maybe even (if you find a venue you love) get a good deal on a 2014 wedding at 2011/12 prices!

I successfully planned and got married whilst at uni. We got engaged when I was in my first year of college and we got married this April (in the middle of half term).
We are both now qualified teachers, my husband did a PGCE for secondary teaching, and I was doing a 3 year BA course for primary teaching.
My advice would be to make sure you get the balance right. We started planning when I was in my first year of uni, we got the main planning out of the way, i.e. venue, photographer, transport, cake. So we were left with smaller and less to do closer to the time.
Please just make sure that you don't let the planning take over your uni work. I probably could have done better with some of my work, (1 mark off a first for my dissertation!) but I let myself go into a dream sometimes.
Enjoy it, get the balance right and you will love every minute of uni and planning for your forthcoming nupitals

I am in my final year of Uni and getting married in June next year 2 weeks after my exams, a week before graduation
My best tip is to make the most of free/holiday time. Such as in these summer holidays ive been to the cake designer discussed what we are after and same with the florist and made all the invitations. Everything is booked now and its just all the little bitty things that need doing now. Like others have said you need to make sure you have a balance. Such as when I was doing my exams if I spent 2hours planning I would make sure I spent 2 hours revising. Its not as hard as I thought it would be and if I can do it with a 4 year old plus working part time in such you can too
