Fresh from their victory in BBC2’s Dragon’s Den, where they won the backing of newest Dragon Hilary Devey, Andrea and Rebecca are the TV whizz-kids behind Shoot It Yourself.

Ex-primetime television directors, the girls certainly know a thing or two about creating tear-jerking, laugh-out-loud TV gold and they’ve applied this fresh thinking to traditional wedding videos. Their clever company rents out professional quality cameras to guests so they can capture every intimate moment, from mini maids dancing during the hymns to that raucous rendition of New York, New York at the end of the night. They then take all the footage and edit it into a fun, informal and love-it-forever memento of your big day.

So if you’re dithering over booking a videographer and want to find out what it’s all about, are looking for tips to get top quality shots yourself or want to ask techy editing questions, pose your wedding video puzzlers to Andrea and Rebecca here, or join them live on 4 October, 1-2pm.

Hiya,

Saw you girls on the show - congrats with winning!

We're toying with the idea of shooting some wedding day video ourselves and wanted some advice. How many cameras do you think you need to cover everything that's going on and how long do they need to film for? We're going to ask friends to film but don't want them to be 'on duty' all day and don't want hours and hours of nothingy film we have to wade through to edit.

Can you give us any advice?

Thanks

Hi!

Congratulations on the show! I'm interested in this but know nothing about filming at a wedding! Does it come with instructions? What are the shots you just have to get? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks, x

Hi Twinklebride! We think giving the cameras to your friends to film is the BEST way of getting the up close and personal footage that you'd otherwise miss on your day. The filming bit however is of course the easy bit! You could ask 3 or 4 of your friends to each take it in turn to film their own little bit but it does take us 4 days to wade through all of the footage, all the titles, the music and then export, compress and encode to DVD (quite tricky!) We always recommend 2 cameras though as it means that you get both sides of the getting ready in the morning, which is one of our favourite bits!

hello shoesdowntheaisle. Glad that you're considering using us for your wedding AND the good news is that we have online video tutorials which not only show your friends HOW to film but more importantly WHAT to film. Our cameras are broadcast quality and REALLY easy to use....it's just a matter of getting people to think differently about wedding videos. Filming should be fun and up close and personal with all of your best friends AND if you give the cameras to 4 or 5 different people throughout the day, it's a fun way of getting involved!

Thanks for the advice! Do you think there will be any conflict with our photographer on who gets the best shot? How can we make best use of both if we go for a videographer too? I don't want to double up on cost if I'm getting the same thing twice.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I love the sound of your business and shooting my big day from my guests point of view. We're having a medium-sized wedding, about 90 guests, so how many cameras would we need and how long would people have to spend filming? Is there any limit to how much people can film? We'd love to include a video guest book - just leave one of the cameras in the corner on a tripod for people to leave messages - would that be option?

Hi shoesdowntheaisle. I do think that a lot of videographers do tend to get very similar shots to your photographer but good ones will always work hand in hand with each other. It depends what is more important to you in terms of a finished product. If you want the very beautiful montage with the focus on the ceremony and the speeches then a videographer would probably be your best bet but if you want something less formal , more fun and more of the focus on your friends then it's best to Shoot It Yourself! x

Hello Alex. Thank you for your support and we're glad that you like our style of editing. We have been inundated with lots of lovely editors and their CVs but we are fully crewed up at the moment. We will be interviewing next March so by all means send us your CV and we'll keep it on file. We've got LOTS of lovely weddings coming up for 2012 and our current team of 3 are going to need an extra pair of hands!
