Subject: Hi ladies, bit of style advice required!
It's not for me, I'm sadly not yet engaged!
It's for my mum. She's getting married next summer and is on the hunt for a nice dress.
This will be her third wedding (her first ended in divorce due to him being violent and my father sadly passed away three years ago).

Now she's after a shorter style wedding dress, preferably with a 50's cinched in waist and tea length in lace.... Which just so happens to be my absolute DREAM dress (and between you, me and the gatepost I'm secretly gutted she wants it too).

Thing, is those kinds of dresses probably wouldn't suit her as she's very apple shaped, but a slim size 10-12. I suggested an ivory satin shift dress, just on or above the knee but I was wondering what you ladies were going for? Any links or pics would be much appreciated!

Thank you very very much, and congratulations!

My mum's also a slim-ish apple but 1950s style dresses sort of suit most shapes. It also doesn't stop you wearing a similar shape! For my wedding she's wearing a shift dress, but I've also bought her a Vivien of Holloway dress that she looks fabulous in.

I'm wearing a dress that will look 1860s by day and 1950s by night. Off the shoulder bodice (with a tight-lacing corset underneath) with a huge ballgown skirt for day-time and a 1950s circle skirt with petticoats for the evening.

Hey anix! Yes it's me! How's the planning going?!

I've still yet to cross to the other side

Thanks sundae, that dress sounds absolutely beautiful!

She wants a VoH dress, but only decided on one once I'd picked a green one for my BM dress (she wanted us to pick our own)

I'm also having a VoH pencil dress for my graduation in february.

I looove the idea of having a two in one dress *puts into idea bank for future*

Oooh tea length 50s is lush though...Charlotte Balbier sweet pea <3 I would seriously be after that dress if my mom hadn't vetoed anything above the ankle...but yes, possibly not the best for apple shapes. What about something with a knee length floaty skirt, like...
