were holding our reception at the pavillion nexg Aug, we are paying £500 for the hire of the venue form 12pm - 12am on a Sat which is the cheapest i've seen. We are paying £65 which then allows us to get our own caterers rather than using there in house ones, as I found them rather expensive and not that helpful.
The pavillion has fantastic grounds and the main room has huge oval doors that open up onto the lake, the room could look fantastic with the right decoration. The only downside is that the toilets and corridors are in need of a lick of paint, but my Dad has his own decorating firm, and is goin to offer to do them a deal to get it done before our big day!
We're having it in December next year and are paying £695 for the room from 9 am until midnight, a £65 charge to provide our own catering and a £100 fee for damages that we'll get back if there aren't any!
The room is beautiful and there are these two sets of stairs that meet to create a perfect little mini=hallway for your cake table! It's well worth a look before you book but we fell in-love with it when we went and they're booked for all of July and August next year already!
There's a little terrace that's included in the price as well so if you have a summer wedding you could go out there too!
We've also booked it for our wedding reception next march, same prices as mrsstanley. I agree the terrace room is very cute and the terrace is great, we're actually going to open up all the terrace room doors into a marquee on the terrace, to give us a bit more space. However, I am having second thoughts for a number of reasons, one being that it does need to be painted and I'm a bit concerned that it may take to much effort to disguise this!
Sarahyound9 - I'd be interested to hearing more about your dad's plan to paint, was thinking of enquiring about the same thing, maybe we could partner up on this!!
Hi!
We are interested in Rowheath Pavillion too, so wondered if any of you have any other thoughts on it - I'm waiting to hear back from them with quotes etc, but we did a little reccy today and it looks pretty promising! How are you guys going to decorate it? Does the hire cost include tables/chairs/crockery etc? Who are you using for catering? We are thinknig of a hog roast and the terrace would be perfect for a bbq!!
Also ,anyone getting married a Minworth Greaves round the corner?
Cheers!!

Hello, we're thinking about using Rowheath as a reception venue but are slightly concerned about the lake at the back that people fish in at the weekend, ie we're not hugely struck on the idea of someone waving a wacking great carp around in the back of our photos. Any advice?
Also, I'm a scenic painter so if you need a hand with the redecorating let me know. It does look a little unloved...
Hi Emmalucyb,
When are you getting married? It may be worth checking if it's 'fishing season' around your wedding date, because if not, chances are you'll be fine! (we are going for October, so I think we may be ok on that front...)
If there's a small group of us 'suggesting' a little lick of paint, maybe that will sway them into tarting it up a little? Especially if there's a few people willing to offer a deal/lend a hand!
Hello, I'm holding my reception at Roheath in Sept 09. For the same prices as above.
I live 5 mins from Roheath so was hoping to pop down and have a sneaky peak at how other weddings had set up (I'd look before the bride/groom guests get there of course!)
Rebagnal, my sister got married at Minworth - it was a lovely setting and some fab photos, but its very small - cant remember exactly, but think it sits 30? Also there were people going round the old house one of whom seemed keen to get into the photos! However it was exactly what my sister wanted and therfore perfect!
Haha I love the idea of some random person trying to get into the wedding photos - why would anyone want to do that?!! Minworth seats 40, which suits us, as we can invite more for the reception, and just have close friends and family for the ceremony. It closes in September, so hopefully we'll avoid the over-enthuastic visitors, as our wedding is in October!
Does anyone know what the deal is with decorating Rowheath before the big day? Can we access it the day before to put up deccys, do the tables etc?
I may email them and find out...
Finally, and I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but we are not religious, and there is a rather large cross on display between the two staircases - has anyone else got any thoughts on discreetly covering this up, without offending the Pavillion church that is based there? Hmmmm, a tricky one I feel! R x
Hi emmalucyb, rebagnall - my wedding is at the end of March 2009 and we are now thinking about the decoration. I havn't been there in a while, but plan to go in a few weeks (as I don't live in B'ham) to remind myself what we need to do decor wise, but do agree that it could do with sprucing up. I'm DEFINATELY up for joining efforts to request a new lick of paint. Any ideas ladies how to go about this??!
p.s. they told me that as long as there are no other bookings, you can set up the hall for your reception from the night before.
Regbangall - tell you what, let me know the date of your wedding and I'll wonder down a be your random person if you wan't. LOL, It was really strange he kept attaching himself to one end/ at the back of the group - it was a good job that we all knew who was invited to the wedding!
Also I believe that the Pavillion is now owned/ run by the church so not sure about the cross.
I'd be happy to join forces on the sprucing up too, esp the toilets! Although I do think the new childrens play area is fantastic.
We are going to have a hog roast/bbq on the terrace, so planning to guide people round the back, so they get the view of the lake as they come in, and can use the terrace doors as the entrance - I think this is much better than going through the side door and corridor.
As for decoration, we are thinking of making vintage style bunting to hang between the columns, and using lots of fairy lights and candles about the place. I'm also going to have lots of little tin lanterns on the terrace. My CBM has a plan for decorating the stage area too, with bunting and fabric.
Maybe we should send a communal email to them suggesting we join forces on the 'sprucing'? I'm sure they will be grateful of the offer of help, and then we get what we want too! (It would also be nice to make a day of it, have a brainstorm on each others ideas, and maybe even finish it off with a glass or two of cava...?)
Anyway, I think I may be getting carried away now, but am a little bit over excited about everything!!
We are planning on booking the 3rd Ocotber - just need to iron out a few details then we can pay the deposit!
Ruth x
PS - emmalucyb - are you based at any of the Brum theatres? I'm a costume designer/maker, and do a lot of work at The Rep - maybe we have crossed paths? Ruth x
