Subject: How many bridesmaids??
Hi there,
I am getting married in autumn next year and have already asked 3 of my friends to be bridesmaids. However I really want to ask another 2 who I am close to but wondered if then 5 would be too many??

Its totally up to you! I'm having 4!

All I'll say is just remember of the expense of having more. Each bridesmaid can add a goof few hundred quid to your budget!! Dress, make up, hair, shoes, accessories, bouquets......

To save money, my girls are going to do their own makeup and probably get their own shoes too!

If you can afford it, then why not. I don't think 5 is too much. My own personal view is that you should only ask BMs if you can afford to pay for them. I wouldn't dream of asking my BMs to pay for any of it.

I'm having 3, though one BM has just found out she is pregnant and due around the time of my wedding. So may be having 2 yet!

I'm having 7 bm's and 2 pages. The adult bm's, my 2 sisters, are buying their own dresses which is what I had to do for their weddings, so I'm not going to feel guilty about it. I'm paying for everything else though.

iv only got 1 bm (my sister) as i'm not big on friends but you should have as many as you want, if you have a smaller budget ask them to contribute shoes or something, money shouldn't be an issue they will know they are as special as you see them and if you had just invited them as guests they would have had to buy their own dresses anyway.....

even with only having one, if my sister falls in love with a super expensive dress and at the end of the day i haven't the pennies then i'm sure she won;t mind chipping in-she'l just remember when it's my turn to be her bridesmaid hehehe

I'm having 7 - 3 adults and 4 little ones. I'm buying my friends their dresses then getting their shoes for them as their Christmas presents (so wouldn't cost much extra than a normal gift) and accesories as their thanks-for-being-our-bridesmaid gift. I'm not sure about hair and make up yet, we'll probably do our own! As long as you have that conversation early on I think 5 sounds fine

I am having seven bridesmaids, maybe nine. All will be paying for their own dresses as agreed because I want them all there but simply can't afford the expense and don't want to ask three and leave four out. All have agreed as some are over 18 and for the others their parents are more than delighted to pay for their dresses.

I'd say just be conscious of costs, it really does add up. We are having 8 bridesmaids, and at about £200 a dress, £80 for hair and make up, plus shoes, jewellery etc they become pricy.

I am definitely of the opinion that if you ask somebody to be a bridesmaid you can't expect them to pay for anything. However, if you very clearly state this when you ask them and say you would like them to be a b.maid but they'd need to pay their way they could then decide not to before they commit.

I think if you are close and they all mean a lot to you then it is nice to have them all - cost is probably the main factor to consider

I am currently having this conversation with myself. do i go for it and ask everyone I want, but ask them to pay? or do I have none because I can't afford it, or only have one or two and upset the others?! Sorry, that wasn't much help was it?! It's a difficult one. Xxx
