Subject: Someone to host our blessing/celebration
Hello, hoping someone has a bright idea for me.
My fiance and I are getting legally married on one day just in the registry office with a few family members, and then having a big reception in a field and marquee the next. We wanted to have some sort of non-religious blessing in the field but I have just looked at the British Humanist Association website and their celebrants are upto £750 for a wedding - they only work for 20 minutes!!
I was just wondering if any of you had any ideas as to what we could do, as I feel it would be a bit odd for us to just stand up and say our vows to each other without any sort of ceremony.
We're willing to pay upto £200 I think.
Thanks ladies!

Our celebrant is costing us £250 - and she's already put in much more than twenty minutes work! She has gone through readings with us, suggestions for hand fasting/candle lighting/blessings and ceremony formats, we've emailed back and forward with ideas over the last few months, she's met up with us and will be there to do a rehearsal, and on the day our ceremony will be about 40 minutes long. I'd say she was worth every penny. I'd seriously reconsider a celebrant.

That's encouraging, whereabouts in the country are you? Is your celebrant part of the BHA? I'd be perfectly willing to have one that isn't registered with them but they are tricky to find!
Have you decided what sort of ceremony to go for?
Thanks, Poppy

We are doing exactly the same. You'll be legally married the day before so you can have ANYONE as your celebrant. We have asked my fiances sister to be ours. She will stand up with us and say a bit about us, we're having readings, exchanging rings and saying our vows. At the end she'll say you may now kiss the bride! It's so much more personal having someone you both know standing up there with you.
Do you have a family member of friend who might like this? Would you like that sort of thing?
