hi mrsmcdowll2b
im 29 from lancashire
i got quite upset the other week
once you tell your family your getting married they kind of got carried away telling me this telling me that - I was having phone calls at 1000pm telling my the MIL has found another venue!!
So after getting upset about costs and what people expect - I kind of lost the whole its me and H2B getting married not any one else
Were simple people who don’t like fuss my H2B is spoiled by his mum and me.
He’s too fussy with foods, both our families are not posh (my parents are separated another nightmare when it comes to wedding planning) and we like traditional home cooked food not a la carte 3 course meals
Its only when I spoke to my photographer about my worries that she suggested the venue and I was glad of the helpful advise she gave me when looking at venues.
Sept wedding can’t rely on weather so make sure your venue is well light bright for photos they are the memory after all!
I went and viewed it on Saturday and knew straight away I wanted my wedding there, our appointment was with the proprietor’s assistant so she noted everything I said all my worries and this Friday we go and pay a deposit.
Ive not told the MIL yet!!!!!
But once its finally booked I can stop worrying about where it will be and start looking forward to planning the day!
Weve decided on an afternoon 16.00pm civil wedding at this place the room will then be changed for food and disco.
Were serving bacon/sausage barms hot pie and peas and wedding cake of course!!
I don’t want to spend a fortune on £ cost per person per head for food id rather spend more money on my memories rings, photographs, dress and the disco – ive booked a wedding singer!!

So tell me more about yours!! The MIL suggested a castle in Lake Windermere – I cringed trying to imagine all my family on a coach for the day!!!

Hi BrideToBee!

Oh boy, I am quite happy MIL is staying out of it all! Hahahahahahaha.

We are getting married early, probably 11.30, in the church in Keswick. After that we will go with our 75 guests to Derwent Water for a 40 minute cruise on the lake. That's where we will have the champagne as well. After that we are going to the golfclub and have diner there. All quite normal, like local food. It will be a buffet and will have warm ham and hotpot etc.
After that we are going outside where there is a marquee and there is the dj and the reception starts for the PARTY!!
We wanted to book a hotel first. We went to view it and it was gorgeous. That was, untill we spoke to the manager. me and h2b always go to France and bring back loads of wine that we really love. So we wanted to have that wine during the diner. No! And not negotiable was the answer of the manager. So we were very disappointed with that and it got even worse when they found out that I am from Holland and family and friends are coming over. He changed the rules and they all had to book rooms in the hotel!!! It was an option, but as soon as he MADE us doing that, the fun was over. I am glad we found the golfclub, seen as they are lovely over there and we are allowed to take our own wine!

Hi mrsMcDowell2b
A cruise round derwent waters sounds so romantic! i love it there Beautiful and peaceful sounds lovely, and your reception at the gold club sounds very relaxed serving hotpot and hot hams yum!!
Im visiting the venue tonight so will report back on food and wine!!
My h2b bought a motorbike last night so his parents came around to disapprove and he told them we only want a relaxed informal wedding so fingers crossed ill get my own way – she was happy when I asked if she’d like to hep make our own invites – I think mums just want to be involved!!

Ok of sorts - the venue specialises in weddings so they know what they are doing... although already been told no fireworks which was a bit annoying and the in-house planner is still finding her feet a bit. We are really lucky in that we have a big budget and wanted to go somewhere where it was just us - we were told we would have to pay a £3,000 exclusivity charge (!) however we had lunch there a couple of weeks ago, and chatted to the head waiter who said there would be no way they would even open their restaurant if they had a wedding of our size (about 180) going on. The venue specialises in doing weddings so I'm pretty hopeful everything should work out ok!!

We have our disco booked - a friend of ours, and I have my first dress fitting in a couple of weeks. Our photographer's provisionally booked and we've decided what we're doing for honeymoon, just got to book so I think it's going ok - although how long before it all falls apart.......
