Subject: Advice needed
Hi all,

I am a crossdresser wanting to find a bridal boutique that would be willing to sell me a bridesmaid dress/prom dress. Does anyone know of any shops that have done this before? I am really scared of offending shop owners and, having never been through the process before I have no idea where to start.

Any advice would be gratefully received. I have bought one dress on line however I found the sizin was wrong and it was very upsetting as the quality seemed to be poor.

Ideally it would be Gloucestershire, but I do travel to Staffs & Merseyside on business.

Can I suggest sending an email to a few prospective shops saying exactly what you have done here - I'm sure you'll receive a positive response and then you can visit them to try some dresses on. Good luck with it

Debenhams do quite nice bm dresses which you can order on line - there's a sizing chart on their website too so you can measure up before you order. They're a bit pedestrian, but they're nice enough. If you want something really special, you could treat yourself to Vivienne Westwood - they're corseted so they are a nice fit and pull you in in all the right places!

I was a bit shocked to read that you think you might offend shop owners! Why would they care who buys their stock? It's all money in the bank to them. I don't know if you're ever in London but I really don't think any of the shops here would be in the least bit bothered about selling you whatever the hell you want.

Hope you find something you like x

Thank you both.

I guess that I am scared of offending shop owners as it is probably the most feminine area (if that makes sense) and to have a man come into it or want to come into it may offend.

I have e-mailed 3 shops. I have two politely saying no and one was rude. So will have to try another soon....

did you watch that program about teenage transexuals? well one of the guys, who is now a girl wanted a job in a bridal shop and they said no as they thought it might upset their customers if they knew he/she was there. I think that was terrible and I really feel for you, its not like you will be looking at any of the other brides as when you are trying on you will be in a cubicle and so should everyone else until they get a dress on.
Maybe do what Vicky said and email as many as you can in your area first.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been treated so rudely, I find it just incredible. I really hope you manage to find something nice. I do think you'd have more luck going into a big city (Manchester?) to shop as people are a bit more open minded. Good luck x

Thank you.

when I saw they had replied I got all nervous and have to admit when I read the one that seemed quite rude I cried a little. But the show must go on...

That's really sad, you mustn't let them get to you. They're small minded idiots who can't see beyond the ends of their own noses. It must be very difficult though. You stick to your guns and keep doing your own thing.
