Subject: Dress wobbles... Does it really matter?
Hi guys,

a few months ago I went dress shopping and to cut a long story short found "the one" but it was waaaay over priced for my budget. It was a dress called "Heaven" from Berketex. It was nothing at all like the style of dress that I wanted but it just suited me perfectly, the shape, the style with a full tulle skirt with crystals on it. I fell in love again and my mum and best frind couldnt stop blubbing

However, I found another dress dangerously similar in a bridal warehouse so it was off the peg. The only difference being the lack of a train - easily fixed with a cathedral veil! and the price (costing a quarter of the other one).

Since then I have tracked down the designers website and discovered that my dress isnt a wedding dress, but a prom dress... Absolutely gutted. I feel really down about it and im having doubts. I have a few friends gettng married this year and I cringe when they talk about their "Vera Wang", or "Maggie Sottero". Being a size 22 Ive never worn anything designer, and feel pangs of regret that I wont on this occasion either.

Am I being silly? I really couldnt afford buying another full priced dress, and think if I went to buy another dress i'd end up with another one similar to the one Ive bought...

I am considering customising it a little by adding some freshwater pearls and swarovski crystals amongst the beading and diamantes (it would go brilliantly) but am i just making more work for no reason?

Does anyone have any advice or pearls of wisdom to offer me?

Does it really matter as long as you feel amazing in it. Apart from us lot now, who out of your guests are even going to know that its really a prom dress? I really wouldn't get stressed about it. xx

Okay so you went to see the dress and thought it was a wedding dress - why would your guests not think the same? No one has to know it's not a "wedding dress" officially.

If you wear it on your wedding, it's a wedding dress.

Before I got engaged, I had no idea who "Maggie" was and neither will the vast majority of your guests so honestly, don't worry about it.

You'll look gorgeous

I totally agree with the others - if you love your dress, feel gorgeous in it and wear it on your wedding day, then it's a wedding dress. It doesn't matter who made it or where it's from. x

Hi hun,

I tried on an Ian stuart dress and totally fell inlove with it but at £2k i couldnt justify or afford spending that on my dress. Ended up buying the same dress from preloved website for £600. It had a few dust marks on the bottom but thats it. Im getting a corset back put into it as im not keen on the little buttons and the compnay who is altering it is cleaning it for me aswel so total cost for my ian stuart dress will be £800....

i was worried that people would comment on me having a preowned dress but as my mam said who will even know unless you tell them!

Hun u have got the dress you want and it is daft changing it just beacsue its a prom dress. Its just a label and tag aslong as you love it then go for it. It will look stunning the way it is dont panic. when you try it on again with all your hair dun and acs etc you will feel much better...

good luck hunny....

To be honest I find these days that people actually snort if they find people have paid a lot for something, and finding a bargain actually carries a lot of kudos!! If you want to embellish the dress because you think it will look better then do it, if you're doing it to prove a point don't!! I think if you say "oh, it's just a prom dress" in a negative manner you're setting the tone kinda, but if you say "I love it, it's ace and it was such a bargain" then people are gonna feel the positivity!! x
