Congratulations! :)I live in Leicester but I'm getting married abroad so won't be much help, I'm looking for a reception venue for a party when we're back!

Congratulations! I live in Leicestershire and have looked at Kilworth House and Kelmarsh Hall they were both stunning but out of my budget. Ive now booked Dunchurch Park Hotel in Rugby. The grounds and building are stunning and we got a fab package which included The great Hall for reception, a yummy big sit down menu, flowers, Dj, Chair covers & sashes and an evening buffet all for £65 per person. They do offer packages like this a lot.
Exciting times when are you thinking of getting married?

I'm in Derbyshire on the Leicestershire border - which side of Leicestershire are you thinking because I looked at some on the north/west side.

Congratulations and happy planning!

Thanks everyone
We're thinking next summer or end of spring for the big day! We're on the east side of Leicester but to be fair we've been looking all over, i've looked up kilworth house but not heard of Kelmarsh Hall where's that? Calamity - that sounds like a good deal for your venue! Bit too far for us though I think!

Hi Gem, I'm finding it really hard!!! I've seen Sutton Bonnington and Brooksby on the internet, thinking of going to see brooksby maybe. When I google venues within this area the same ones keep on coming up! Perhaps I need to widen my search area lol Have you looked at Barnsdale Lodge? looks quite nice, perhaps we should let easch other know if we see anything nice?! When's your big day by the way?! x

Well we have ruled out sutton bonington due to size i would be lovely for a smaller wedding for about 60 people.

Brooksby was nice, the main room where you have the wedding is beautiful but the reception room needs a lot of decorating - which we didnt want to do, so again ruled out.

prestwold is lovely but my best friend had hers there, so we cant have that - worth a look though.

I have looked at barnsdale but for my numbers i would need the marquee thing which i didnt want.

im getting the feeling im being too picky! here are the must haves:
at least 10 rooms
not a marquee
not keen on hotels
prefer old houses not barns
civil license

help!

Sounds like Sutton bonnington would be no good for us then either or Brooksby if it needs decorating! The other thing I would have liked was a nice spa area for the night before etc which really does sound picky!! There was a place I was looking at on the internet last night called Highgate House it's not in Leicester though nearer Northampton way, I've also seen a couple of nice places on the internet near Market harborough. I really need to start going to view places don't I so at least then i'll be able to rule venues out!
Your 'must have' list sounds a bit like mine so don't think you're being too picky!! It's your one special day so why shouldn't you have exactly what you want though!!
We also would like somewhere that's got nice accomadation as neither of our families live near us and don't think they'll be wanting to drive back on the night afterwards lol x
