Hi guys, I got engaged at Christmas to my boyfriend of 7.5 years, & we need all the help and tips anyone is able to give to plan our wedding. We have no idea where to start. Not sure if we want to get married at home (south wales) or abroad. Can anyone suggest any nice Venues in south wales or abroad? Many thanks

Hi,

I am a fellow South Wales bride. Which part are you looking at? I can't really advise you on weddings abroad as it wasn't something we considered seriously (too big a family on my side).

Anyway I went to loads of wedding venues in south wales - there is a lot of choice out there. Anything I can do to help just ask. However, I really think you need to decide on abroad vs home first as this will affect pretty much everything to do with the wedding.

My starting place was wedding magazines and wedding fayres. I went to one a week after getting engaged (not necessarily the best idea - I ended up walking out after some crazed woman started hassling me about chair covers, even after telling her that we hadnt even set a date lol)

Get your country sorted first though x

Hi welsh grace. Have you set a date and found a venue for your wedding?

I'm starting my wedding fayre rounds tomorrow at Llechwen Hall nr Pontypridd, a nd have a few others lined up too, I'm hoping that by going to a few venues I'll get a better idea of if I want to stay local to get married, there are pros and cons for both and can't pick at the moment.

We're thinking of marrying in 2yrs time to save and have plenty of time to make decisions.

Thanks for ur reply

Hi, how was your wedding fayre?

Yes we are getting married in August at Bryn meadows towards Blackwood-stunning views.

Yes you have loads of time, but if you want a specific date or peak season beware things do book up extremely fast!

Let me know if I can do anything to help x

Congratulations on your engagement!
I think that if you want to get married abroad you have to be realistic about numbers, if people could attend and if they could afford it. Taking a day out of your holiday allowance for a wedding is ok for some people, but if you ask people abroad they are most likely going to need more than one day holiday.
Decide on your overall budget and then have a look at different venues around South Wales, further away or abroad.
Happy planning

Hi, wedding fayre was ok thanks, llechwen hall was nice but nit sure its for us.

I know bryn meadows, I live not far from there, its a lovely venue but above our budget. Not long until ur big day then, exciting times!

my concerns with getting married abroad, asking people to give up a week+ of their time n its more expensive for guests.

More wedding fayres on the cards this weekend...

Hi!
Me and my H2B also got engaged on Christmas day, and we did consider the whole wedding abroad thing but I honestly thought that it wasn't 100% for me. To help me out we asked our immediate families if they would be offended or if they would mind us going away to get married? Not sure if you plan on inviting anyone or just eloping, but we were going to give people the choice but say they would have to pay for themselves, cutting the cost which was the whole point of thinking about eloping for us!!
On the South Wales venue front, I have already chosen mine. But we went to quite a few and managed to see various types of places. Not sure where you're from exactly, but we're getting married in De Courceys in Pentyrch (between Pontyclun and Cardiff), who are reasonably priced, its a nice venue and the staff are AMAZING (that was the selling point for us when decided between our top two venues). There is a wedding fayre there on the 19th of Feb
As I am also a newbie, if anyone has any hints or tips for me they would much be appreciated, we're the first of all our friends to get married so hence me joining to have people in the same situation to discuss things with!!

Hi welsh grace, I'm also getting married in Bryn Meadows. YAY!! any advice you have would be appreciated about ideas of decorating the venue etc.

Soon2bemrssiandavies, its worth looking into the packages at Bryn Meadows, if you do decide on south wales, as they have within the last few months changed them around and there are some which are reasonable.

Thanks Gem
