Subject: Help with a wedding dress!
Although, I'm originally from Brecon, South Wales, I now live in Turkey and am getting married here. Saying that I do not want to look like a toilet paper figure dusted with glitter! That said I have decided to get my wedding dress when I come home in March and a final fittings in August before the wedding in September ( i have spoken to a number of shops who say this is possible!) However, I only have 6 days when I come home in January so want to visit max of 3 shops. I have chosen 1 in Ebbwvale shopping centre and 1 in Brynmawr. Any opinions or other ideas from other brides? xx

I found the ebbw vale one pretty disappointing as most of the dresses were nearly all the same plus the manageress was really pushy.
There are also 2 in blackwood heaven scent w& birds of paradise (which isnt the flashest but the woman is so nice i felt guilty not buying from her lol). You also have 2 in abergavenny one is country brides & the posher looking one i can't remember.

All About Eve is meant to be really good and has stores in Newport and Chepstow. Also Allison Jayne in Cardiff also has good reviews

Magic Moments in Abergavenny [the posher one] were fantastic when i went there with my daughter, the girls in there give really good advice without being pushy, lovely experience. Country Brides were horrible, wouldn't set foot in there again if it was the last place on earth, very rude, unhelpful people. As is Allison Jayne in Cardiff, horrid experience. Heaven Scent in Blackwood are good too, that's where we bought bridesmaid dresses from.
All About Eve Newport/Chepstow again can't fault both of them.Daughter got her dress from Newport branch. If you can't do the two,as both shops stock different designers all i would say is have a look at their web site to see which shop stocks the designer/s you like and go there. They are fantastic.
The one in Ebbw Vale i have too say is not what it used to be,they don't stock as many different designers as they did 2/3 yrs ago [stopped Maggie Sottero] and as someone else said the dresses are all very alike and not cheap either.

Everyone has already given you some very good suggestions, so I won't add anymore unless you want some for Cardiff, as I've tried most of the ones there (wouldn't recommend Allyson Jayne, got mine from Perfection, who were fab and had reasonably priced dresses - tried most of the others if you want reviews!)

One thing I would say though is that, if you can spare the time in your 6 days at home, maybe go to more than 3. Of all the ones I went to, I never saw the same dress twice and it took a few shops to figure out what suited and what didn't in terms of style and fabric.

Just as defence for Allison Jayne in Cardiff - absolutely amazing from the day I first visited to the day I picked up my dress. So helpful and unlike a lot of places they don't treat you like rubbish once you've paid your deposit. Couldn't have had a better dress buying experience.

I'd recommend Magic Moments in Abergavenny, Suzanne James in Cardiff, Perfection in Cardiff and Laura May in Cardiff :O)

Don't bother with Cardiff Bridal - shocking place and staff!

I'm not from your area so can't help you with any advice there I'm afraid, but you are putting yourself under a lot of pressure to find the dress in 6 days.

If you can, do as much research as possible (like you are doing on this Forum) and if possible try on some gowns in Turkey. At least if they're dodgy, you might at least know if you want slim, big, fishtail etc, to give you a running start.

And try to schedule your last day to be on a midweek day, to give you a chance to get a last minute appointment to give your fav gowns a "second viewing." Shops can be very busy at the weekend.

And like atlast said, you can definitely go to more than 3 if it won't overwhelm you!

GOOD LUCK and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Yours, Sarah xxx
