Mauritius or Maldives???

We are looking any either Mauritius or Maldives for the last two/three weeks in May? I have tried to research on-line and it seems that Mauritius is meant to be nicer in May.
Has anyone been and is this the case??

Mauritius will likely be better weather; I personally would be dubious about visiting the Maldives late May. Also, I personally would be bored to tears in the Maldives; we hate being restricted and like having plenty to do; we would find the Maldives boring after about 5 nights I think. But, that's personal.

The weather in the Maldives could be bad in May as it's rainy season but it is still heaven on Earth. And there is plenty to do if you like the sea. We went to an All Inc place in Cuba and that was really dull so I understand the idea of restriction being boring. My OH always gets bored and agitated after a week on holiday but he wasn't bored for one minute in the Maldives. We've been there for two weeks for the last two years and we're going back this year again. Personally I would risk having some rainy weather and go the Maldives. It's paradise.

I've been to both, Maldives once, and Mauritius twice (got married in Mauritius actually). I would go back to Mauritius again in a heartbeat, and although the Maldives was fantastic, I wouldn't be desperate to return (don't get me wrong, you wouldn't have to twist my arm to get me on a plane to the Maldives

The main difference is - in my mind - you go the Maldives and you are on that small stunning island, yes you can go a boat trip to another small stunning island. And the snorkelling in amazing. BUT, in Mauritius, you get that tropical island feel in your hotel/resort, and the snorkelling, and yes you can go on a boat trip, but there's so much more on the island to do; small towns, a city, wildlife parks, waterfalls, nature reserves etc etc.

Oh yes, i went to Mauritius in Feb and it was hot hot hot (not unbearable) and some stormy tropical rain, also went in May, not so blisteringly hot, but not a cloud in the sky the whole time.

we are going to the maldives in october which is still the rainy season. But from what I hear the rain comes down and then goes again pretty quickly. Its not like constant drizzle. So I would't let the weather be the major factor in your choice - plus it keep the price down.
It depends what you want. We are only going for a week so I don't mind a week of chilling. Maybe two weeks would be a bit boring.
Plus the maldives wont be around forever, so I hear, so I just want to go once in my lifetime

Were going to Mauritius in July - we were advised by Kuoni and Turquoise that this was the better place of the 2 (Weather wise) for this time of year!!

I also agree with Ptat - purely personal - feel like we'd have more to do in Mauritius

We went to the Maldives (Thulhagiri AMAZING!) in May about 6 years ago. It was incredible and we had 1 rainy day in 15. Weather was HOT HOT HOT!! The most amazing place ever. Cant comment on Mauritious as ive never been. x

Love love love Mauritius, we got married in September last year and it was amazing. Pure paradise, plenty to do as others have said and not unbearably hot but soooo much better than here! Cant comment on Maldives as I've not been, we did look at marrying there but you can only do renewal apparently, so it will just have to go on our list of places to go sometime!! Good luck, where ever you choose! I am sure they are both beautiful, but I am biased towards Mauritius!

Can i ask where any of you lovely ladies stayed in Mauritius? I wanted the Maldives, but was advised that Mauritius would be better weather in November. Lots of great hotels. Any recommendations?
