Subject: Honeymoon in Italy - advice please!
Hi Ladies,

Looking at a honeymoon in Italy but no idea where to start - would like to go to a few places but not so we are dashing aorund all honeymoon. So many holiday firms and nice looking places such as Sorrento, Capri, Sardinia, Lake Garda, Rome, Verona and Venice. Where do we go and how do we arrange it? Can anyone recommend a package or way of doing things?!

Thanks xx

We have booked our honeymoon to Sorrento. From there you can visit Capri, Ischia, Amalfi Coast, Vesuvius, Naples and Rome. We wanted to see and do plenty but without the upheaval of moving around and have plenty of relaxation time!
Have fun researching! x

We booked a multi centre holiday through classic collection through our local co op travel as they were cheaper than citalia and kuoni for the same thing. We're doing 5* Sardinia beach resort for relaxing luxury then to sorrento for coastal break and exploring around amalfi coast then Florence for culture, 2 weeks in nice rooms/hotels, flights and transfers for £4k.
We only decided what places to go to after a lot of online research, loved Rome and Venice where we've been to before which often feature in tour packages destinations? Depends how much you want todo and explore as to which parts of Italy you go to? We can't lie around and do nothing so was important to us to stay places that had plenty of activities and excursions. Many months were spend reading travel brochures and online, have fun deciding x

We went to Florence for 3 days, then stayed in a private villa in the Tuscan hills for a week followed by 4 days in Siena.
Was amazing!

We've also booked our Honeymoon to Sorrento. We knew we wanted to go to Italy, as it's somewhere we've both always wanted to visit, but there are so many amazing, beautiful parts of Italy, it took us a long time to decide exactly where. I'd love to do a multi-centre holiday, but sadly we just can't afford it. So we decided to do Southern Italy - based in Sorrento and day-tripping to the island of Capri, along the Amalfi Coast, and to Vesuvius. Talking about it makes me all excited again! Can't wait til August

Didn't go on honeymoon to Italy but went as follows:

2 nights Rome
2 nights Florence
3 nights Venice

It was definately the right order for us to do it - we just booked flights to and from and the hotels then got trains when we got there - were very cheap even for first class - especially compared to England! Was about £30 per leg first class at the time.

Venice was amazing and our favourite place now - we were so glad we ended up there and have been back a few times just to Venice since. It's a cliche but it is for a reason - because it's amazing! If you go in 2013 (or every other year after that) you will be there during the Biennale which is a must do - a city wide art exhibition that exhibits in old crumbling palazzo's normally closed to the public and in loads of public spaces.

Stayed in a good hotel right near the Vatican in Rome - Hotel Columbus - rooms were basic but we didnt pay for a better room but think they were available - but the breakfast room was something else! Fresco'd crumbling ceilings...amazing. I like crumbling stuff! The other hotels were ok but the FLorence one was gorgeous but a bit far out and the Venice one...well - if you have the budget use it in Venice as there are a lot of cruddy hotels. And a lot of cruddy restaurants - but you dont go there for the food thankfully

Italy is amazing - have fun

We booked everything ourselves because we liked the freedom of choosing our own hotels and dates. We did 4 nights in Venice, 3 nights in Rome and 6 nights in Sorrento. We arranged 1st class train tickets along with the flight to Marco Polo and out of Naples. We pre-booked a private water taxi to take us to our Venetian hotel and then to the train station 5 days later. We booked a airport transfer to Nsples when in Sorrento as there are loads of travel agents selling this service.

Loved, loved, loved Venice! Very expensive to eat out but it's like no-where else! We stayed in a fancy large bed and breakfast by the Rialto bridge. We were tired of sight-seeing when we got to Rome and wished we had booked the extra nights in Sorrento to relax. However the Vatican and Colusseum are amazing. We splashed out in Sorrento and had a gorgeous hotel with balcony and pool, which you want as beaches aren't great there. Then went on fantastic trips; Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri and hired a chauffeur to drive us around the Amalfi Coast,

We're now thinking of celebrating our first anniversary in Sicily. Hubby has always wanted to go there butit was too costly to include in the honeymoon.

My cousin recommends Florence for the architecture. A colleague said Bologna was a great base as it had great transport links for doing day trips to lots of cities. The lakes also look stunning.
