What do people think about inviting work colleagues to the evening reception and not inviting their partners?

It would save money, but I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable!

it's up to you i supposed. everyone at our wedding is there for the whole day so everyone who has a partner will have their partner invited (except teenage cousins with teenage crushes hehe) but its up to you, as long as they know other people there theres no need to feel uncomfortable and if it means you can invite more people you actually know then go for it. some people have a specific cut off point so only partners who are living with each other/married, none at all, just make it fair and do the same for all those people

We did this (for my colleagues) as there is a lot of them so figured they would all be together anyway and are limited on numbers... just beware we've recieved RSVPs with the partners names on also!

I've invited partners as well, didn't seem right not inviting them. If people are single tho I've invited them as singles, no plus ones, I'm not paying out money for people I've never met, or there latest 'friend'
then again its only an extra 10 people so not too bad

I think if you are inviting enough people from work for them not to feel out of place, then that's fine! They can all socialise together.

However, if you are only inviting a couple of people, then a plus one might be nice.

That's how Im going to do it - I've only been in my new job for a few months, so dont know exactly who Id invite yet!

We're not inviting partners!

Am inviting colleagues from my immediate department to the day and saying no plus ones (except will be specifically inviting one partner as due to religious reasons the colleague in question has to have him present), and then inviting extras to the evening still with no partners.

When we socialise at work, lunches, pub on a Friday after school, Christmas meals, end of term nights out etc, noone brings partners, so that's why made the decision, plus numbers, plus money!

I suppose it depends on what your office/dept is like. My partner is inviting his colleagues with their partners because he works for a specialist team which is quite small.

Where I work is huge and over the last 5 years I've rotated through all the departments and I'm also on secondement part of the week to another community team. So I've got an open invite for both teams and in the past we just all go on our own (as a group). Although I've also got named invites for the people I socialise with outwith work - and these include their partners because I've met all of them.

I think its completely fair enough not to invite partners if there is a group that will know each other, particularly if you have never met the plus one!
