Subject: Can anyone recommend a baby weaning book
hiya

My bubba is 15 weeks old and although we're not weaning her yet, I'm sure it'll come in the next few months! I have no idea what to do, what to give her or how much etc!

Can anyone recommend a good, simple book to help me?

Thanks

Hi, i have the Annabel Karmel book - 'Complete Baby and Toddler Meal planner'. It gives the basics at the beginning and suggests appropriate recipes for when beginning weaning and how to introduce it gradually through the meal planner.

We started our lo on baby rice (mixed with my breast milk) at 4.5 months and fruit purees at 23 weeks. We have used some of the recipes out of the book and it tells you how best to prepare the food etc. I've found it quite useful but this is the only book I have used and based most of my weaning on instinct and what I have learnt at my post-natal group.

I had the same book as mrs h. We even ate some of the meals in there! Although LO refused to eat anything I cooked him (with the exception of sweet potato) until he was around 8 months old, so we ended up having to give him jars and sachets (he was a very hungry baby, we weaned him at 4 months) my health visitor and friends with babies probably gave me the best advice though.

If I did it again I'd just google recipes though

I used that same Annabel Karmel book and found it really helpful to get started. It also gives a really good idea of the portions you're aiming for at each age....

I then used the baby led weaning recipe book when he was a bit older so he was eating the same as us..... (tho I will admit I did mash and spoon feed it which is totally against the baby led weaning principles! but by then his skills weren't good enough to eat enough as finger food)

Now he's a year old and has a finger food lunch and a spoon fed dinner which is the same as ours.

Oh and I weaned him onto baby rice, fruit and veg at 18 weeks as he was drinking 45oz of milk...

Thanks girls

I've ordered the Annabel Karmel book, as hopefully it'll be a start!

She's not ready to be weaned yet as on about 25oz a day but I like to be prepared!

Thanks again
