Subject: Pregnant and 6 weeks pregnant
Hi Ladies,
Sorry edited to say the title should read chickenpox and 6 weeks pregnant lol!!!!

Im 6 weeks pregnant (7 on Wednesday ) and I am a teacher. Chicken pox is going round the school and one child in my class has been off with them today. I haven't had chicken pox and so am quite worried. I phoned my doc and I am having a blood test on Wednesday to see if I am immune.

I haven't told the head or anyone that I am pregnant and am now wondering if I should say something to the head tomorrow??

Not really sure what I am asking here, just need some reassurance - sorry if this is silly! xxx

Hi lovie, I am a nursery nurse and a mum of 4, I would definitely tell the head teacher, you've nothing to loose by being honest, maybe you can have a few days off until the virus has passed through the school? worth a go, but I'm sure the head will be understanding.
Good luck at the drs

I would def tell the head and stay away!
My little boy had chicken pox in November and I was told not to take him out whatsoever as its dangerous for the elderly and pregnant women who haven't had it. You've got to put you and your baby first and not the school...it's the only time you can be selfish and get away with it!
Sorry I sound like I'm scaring you...I'm sure you're fine but it's better safe than sorry!x

I agree I would definitely tell the head and even if you can just stay away until the results of your test are back it's best to be safe than sorry. You would regret it if something happened so do your best to prevent it. I'm sure the head will understand anyway and probably wouldn't want you there if he/she knew you were expecting

I'm really surprised your doctors didn't advise you to stay off until you have the test, but I would def ring the head and explain everything and stay off. You should know by weds if you have the antibodies to fight the virus, if not I think they give you an injection. Hope all goes well hun xxx

As a teacher you are entitled to time off if there are infectious diseases. It won't come out of your sick leave entitlement either. It means you'll have to tell your head though.
My colleage had a similar experience when a child had 'slap cheek'. I've never been pregnant myself, but worked with lots of teachers who have been. It's in the NUT maternity guidance.

I'm a teacher (and although not a mum I'm still ttc) Plenty of my friends from work have had days off through this and with similar things like slapped cheek and mumps. If you are a Primary school teacher most managers are female and therefore very understanding anyway!

Hiya

Yes you need to stay away, esp as you are in the very early stages. The daughter of a girl at work had chicken pox & I wasn't allowed near my colleague until Occy health had established we both had had it.

Hope you get sorted with it, & huge Congrats on your pregnancy

Xx
