Hi
Im getting married in July 2010 in Derbyshire - here are a list of some venues we looked at. We finally settled on Thornbridge Hall

Eyam Hall
Hassop Hall
Baslow Hall
Thornbridge Hall
Chatsworth House

It really depends on how big your wedding is, if you want a marquee etc

There is a site called www.weddingvenues.co.uk (i think) and you can search by area. Some of them look nice but when you get there they are really old and tatty. There are some lovely castles too that you can have a marquee in the grounds.

I hope that helps. Give me a shout if you want any more help with anything

I'm West Yorkshire side so depends on what area you are looking at but we looked at:

Oulton Hall
Woodlands
Haleys Hotel

But we fell in love with Rogerthorpe Manor. It depends on your budget too.

Hope this helps

My sister had her reception at Oulton Hall 10 years ago - it was lovely but recently when we went it looked a little dated.

Good Luck with your search xx

Thought of another one that might be good, if your looking for the modern feel.
Thorpe Park near Leeds was lovely we went to a wedding there a year ago. Wood Hall is very modern with amazing bedrooms too for you and your guests.

Hope you find your dream event x

Thanks Liddybride all of your suggestions are gorgeous, but as I am originally from the Leeds area and my partner from York then I think Derbyshire is a little far out for our venue!

Simplestuff thank you for all your suggestions too, I am looking into them now!

Keep the ideas coming ladies! I'll let you know how I get on!!

THANK YOU!! xxx

Have a look at Aldwark Manor near York - we're getting married there Nov 2010 and it's lovely. The website doesn't really do it justice and I would recommend a visit - sounds like you're not that far away anyway.

Thanks MrsT 2010, I do know Aldwark Manor it is fab, I am sure your wedding will be perfect there! I was a bridesmaid there a few years back so I'd kinda like somewhere different for my wedding!
Also we are living in the US at the moment so it's no so easy to get to see everywhere we fancy.
I am trying to put a shortlist together and get some appointments for when we are back later in the year!
Also it doesn't have to be strictly Leeds or York . . . some of the East Yorkshire venues you suggested Chel0506 are loverly!!!
I am loving everyones ideas!! Thanks again!! xx

Hi
Yes I would be the same if I had been a bridesmaid somewhere. There is Harworth House/Castle (I'm not sure which) my SIL2B got married there and it is lovely. Good luck in your search x

Hi,

Just wondering if you were settled on the country house hotel thing or if you would consider city center? Just thinking that York has some lovely hotels really close to the railway station...or perhaps Leeds, loads of choice of some lovely modern and traditional hotels right in the city center. If you are going for a winter wedding might be worth thinking about the travelling distance people have, if the weather is not so good a central location can be a bit easier for people.

As you are in the US can I suggest checking out hitched.co.uk for reviews of potential venues. Another suggestion is to ask a friend or family member to nip into any short-listed venues for a cup of coffee and to pick up a wedding pack. See how they are treated by the staff, it might look wonderful on the websites but there is nothing like first hand experience of the service to really help make your decision (take it from me, we scrapped a few venues from our lists because of the general lack of service from the bar staff and receptionists!)

Good luck in your search! x

I'm getting married at Nostell Priory, Wakefield in Sept 2010 but before we decided on this venue we considered the following:
1. Waterton Park
2. Rogerthorpe Manor
3. Wentbridge House - my fave but they had too high min numbers for the wedding breakfast
4. Monk Fryston
5.Tankersley Manor

Hope that helps!
