Hi all, need your help! Have any of you decided on your menu yet? I'm not sure what to serve with it being a winter wedding.

What are your thought's on a hearty soup for the starter, it will be cold outside?

:\?

Hi ejhunter
we have to decide on starter but are havong roast beef with veg, roast pots and yorkshires, followed by a mini selection of puddings on one plate, then in the evening we are having a hog roast... so pork, stuffing and apple sauce baps, potatoe wedges, salad, homemade coleslaw etc.. oooh its making me hungry now!!! back to my alphabetti spaghetti

Thanks star81. I really wanted a hog roast but our venue can't do it, not really worked out why! So we've compromised and will be having hot pork sandwiches with similar bits to you. I'm going to ask if the venue can have a chef slice the pork in the room, kind of carvey style...think it might be nice and keep the sandwiches fresh.

ps just had a weightwatchers soup...boo! wish I'd had your alphabetti spaghetti!

Just went to a wedding and they had tomato soup for starters and there were quite a lot of full bowls left, think that it's safer to go for a potato based soup or creamy one if you are going for one. We aren't doing our tasting until august, can't wait that long want to do it now!!! Let us know what you go for

it really wasnt that exciting our venue is doing exactly that, cooking it on a bar b q stylee burner and then slicing it infront of people because we are having the receotion in the marquet there arent really any bar b q area's to cook it! if our venue said no,we would have gone for sausage sandwiches and bacon baps... just something fun and tasty to soak up all the alcohol! x

As long as the tasting goes ok we are having:

Mini mince pies when people arrive

Various canapés

Leek and Potato Soup

Chicken with bacon and thyme gravy served with roasted winter vegetables, dauphinois potatoes and green beans
Vegetarian option: Brie and broccoli slice with a red pepper sauce

Dessert: Chocolate fondant for the boys and crème brulee for the girls.

Making me hungary just thinking about it.....!

Soup would be lovely as a starter, very warm and wintery!
We're having a fork buffet and have a huge list of food we have to choose from, I want to have some wintery comfort food so we'll probably go with the pies and mashed potato and stuff like that with sticky toffee pudding for afters! Yum yum yum!

mmm so hungry now. i dont think you can go wrong with a soup starter at any time, especially in winter!
i would agree with the above post though, to go with a cream or potato based one though.
someone posted on here once saying they were having honey roasted parsnip soup for their starter.
made my mouth water... mmm could so eat some of that right now. dammit im so hungry!

I'm having winter veg homemade soup for starter, 3 sausages, mash, onion gravy and veg for main and lemon cheesecake for desert. Nothing fancy coz my H2B doesn't like posh food! For the evening we are having crackers and cornish cheeses and mince pies!

we're luckiy enough to have options for the courses for people, never thought it would be allowed but the venue have been really open to it.
so our starter options are: roasted salmon, red pepper and tomato soup or melon
the mains are fairly standard but for the desserts we went for heavier ones as it is winter - blackberry & apple crumble with custard, sticky toffee pudding - YUM! no idea how i'll eat any of it in my dress though....

These are all making me hungry! Its looking like we're having mini cakes and tea/coffee during the "mingling", then for the meal French Onion soup, followed by roast beef & Yorkshires, then lemon tart. Instead of an evening buffet we're doing a night time hog roast with floury baps, potato wedges and salads too. Yum yum yum!
