i went to miami for the millenium and loved it! the beaches are gorgeous and it is never ending so not packed. unfortunately i wasnt old enough to drink legally there so didnt really go out (was a fmaily holiday) but was loads to do and great weather. we also went to the keys for a couple of days as they arent that far and woudl definately recommend that too - went swimming with dolphins too. the people are very friendly and you can have a hectic holiday or just relax on the beach depending on what you feel like x

Carrie.
NYC is like my second home as the only place on the planet I return to every 2 years (hubby even proposed there as we both love it so much!), and I used to live in the states and have been to Miami a few times - and was legal to drink - when a spring breaker (went to to Uni in US) and when a fully grown adult!
Importantly - what time of the year are you going?
As someone who has been there during Spring Break as a student and as an adult... AVOID MARCH/EARLY APRIL ... it's wall to wall bedlam with kids everywhere getting "tanked" and a bit "crazy"... day and night! Imagine Ibiza/Magaluf but with with rich kids!!
I loved it - Hubby found it all fascinating! Especially the wet t-shirt contests and the hummers cruising down Ocean Drive.
We have stayed at The Colony right on OD - the most photographed hotel in Miami for art deco hub bub & The Delano for uber chicness. I just wanted to pack all the furnishings into my case!!
Great bars, clubs, resturants --- ooo the fresh fish! yummy.... the beaches - the whole Miami vibe is just great - straight or gay or undecided!! you cannot get bored in Miami, South Beach or Downtown - but can relax too.
Tip - Miami Airport STILL has left luggage facilities - so if you want to leave your NYC clothes somewhere rather than hauling ALL your luggage about - then you can leave it here for a reasonable rate.
We used this service when we did our 2006 air/road trip - Philly - Miami- Key West - Miami - NYC in March - so going from snow to beach to snow again!
DO GO to the Keys. Hire a car- drive route one - stop along the way - key largo, Marathon - or just go straight down to Key West and chill.
Plenty of B&Bs I can reccomend for that real florida/meets carribean experience.
DO go Shopping at the many outlets.
Can still save ££/$$ even with the 1.6(ish) xchange rate.
NYC - oh dear ... where to begin with tips etc ...
..probably easier if you emailed me and said what you are looking for, the area you want to stay, etc etc

That wold be my ideal honeymoon but we're marrying in June and so Miami will be in hurricane season! This year we did Ny and Florida (my better half proposed there too so its extra special) over spring break and it was the first two weeks of april so I am sure you will be fine by 23rd.

carrie, i dont think you can do the keys in a day, not if you want to actually get to see everything and enjoy it.although you probably can in two. (but then it was a few years ago i went so struggling to remember!) although i would recommend a couple of days, you could even stop at different ones. we also went to the everglades which i didnt think id like but was really good.
i hope you have a really nice time. we were looking to go to maimi and keys but as we've both been there before (although not together) we've decided to go to the other side and go to california! xxx

Carrie - agree with fifi - need a couple of days to do the keys justice. ... and by late april the college kids will be truly out your way studying in their dorms!
April will be the start of the summer season and it can get blistering hot. take plenty of good sun lotion! x
