Subject: Is this right??
Just spoken to my bridal shop and she informed me at 1st my dress wouldnt be in the shop until 2 months before my day which worked out in June next year. I only have a small balance left to pay which will be paid by Sep this year i should imagine at the latest.

When i asked her about this she said she could order it earlier, and said May? I just agreed with her as at the time i was sorting another issue out and didnt have time to question it,

Now having gone away and thought about it my worries are the following:

Do i have to pay my dress in full before they order it- is this standard practice as alot of ppl ive spoken to say its not! PLus im paying for something in full before its even been ordered. If i pay it in the Sep it wont be in the shop until May the following year.

2) If she ordered it in Sep would it just sit in the shop until my fitting???

3) Im not 100% happy paying it off 100%, as what if they went bankrupt (god forbid) but id be %&*$#!

Help appreciated. xx

Hello! As I understand it you don't pay the final balance till it's inthe shop usually... yes, they usually sit in their shops till the fittings (unless you want to take it home but some are dunny about then doing alterations due to insurance/ damage etc)

Yes Jersey thats what alot of people are telling me, dont pay it off until its in the shop.

I just had to go up the shop you see as they said i owed more than i actually did so i went to sort that issue out (i turned out to be right, and it was there mistake), but even so it was £250 difference!!! Good job i kept my reciepts and im on the ball. x

When I ordered my dress, I paid half the cost of the dress up front, then paid the balance upon arrival of the dress. I then left the dress at the shop whilst it was being altered, I was given the option of taking it home...or not, I left it in the shop, thought it was safer there, and no risk of it being seen by my the h2b.

Hey. Yea agreed... I paid for half of mine when I ordered it, and the other half had to be paid 14 days after it arrived in the shop (I tried it on again of course!)
So not really sure what to suggest, if you're not happy paying in full then I guess you should raise this with the shop???

Why dont you pay in full then store the dress yourself then take it back for alterations if needed?

It would settle you if you are worrying about them going bust or something like that.

I can see how you would be worried about that though I would be the same.

I've had mine in the shop for over a year and it will stay there for another 11 months! lol

I've paid for mine in full though so if it went bankrupt, I own it and it would come to me.

They should order your dress whenever you want it - if you want it in early but don't want it in the shop, then you could store it at home.

If you're concerned about paying for a dress months in advance, make payments on your credit card and you'll be covered if things take a bad turn for the shop x

What i might do is instead of paying it to the bridal shop give the money to my dad to keep, then go to the shop next may and tell them to order it and pay my final balance then.
Just to keep my mind at ease and then its also not sitting in the shop for to long.

Good idea u think?? xx

make sure you pay at least £100 on a credit card to protect yourself.

All the shops I went to wanted 50% before ordering and the balance when it came in.

Also I seem to remember your dress is Trudy Lee they only take 5 months from the shop ordering to arrival.
