Subject: Sky lanterns - how many???
For all of you who are having/have had sky lanterns...

How many have you purchased/How many did you need?

There will be about 120 people at our evening reception, and it looks like you need at least 2 people to help light them/set them up. I was thinking of getting 20-30 (considering that not everyone will want to set one off - some people may just want to watch).

Does this sound about right?

Thanks

Hi, not sure about how many you'll need. Maybe around the 30-40 mark if you think of maybe one between 3 people. We haven't booked our reception yet, but are thinking of Loch Lomond. Can you use sky lanterns in national parks or are there rules against it?

I've got similar number of guests and I ordered 60, but I think 20-30 would be fine - like you said, needs to be 1 between 2 and not everyone will do it. I'm just really hoping it will be nice enough weather to do it and that they will work!

Our venue have limited us to 10, one think the keep in mind though is that i have heard that you need quite specific weather conditions to use them, like it has to be a still night. Dont spend too much on something that ultimately you might not be able to use. I am waiting til the week before the wedding to buy mine and hope the long range forecast is correct x

ive never heard of these until now...they look lovely because we cant really afford fireworks. However, when they fall to the ground, do they burn up before hand because im worried about the litter they may cause.

Thanks for the replies!

That's a really good point babbabyng - our venue has said we can use them with no limit but as you said there's no point getting loads if the weather is pants! (We're getting married this August so no guarantees.)

I think we'll get 20 or so (a couple to test out at home before hand). They are pretty big anyway! I have also thought about getting some sparklers for guests too which may be a bit easier to use and not so weather - dependent....

Soozie1978 - from what I understand they will 'fly'' as long as there is fuel in them. When all the fuel burns out and they aren't filled with hot air they will fall back to the ground. Most of the ones I have seen are biodegradable as they are made out of paper.

ive decided on these. we're having between 40-50 guests and im getting 20 lanterns but my venue is charging me £30 to go and pick them up which makes me wonder whether they will really do this considering how far away they fly.

Hi,
My wedding is also in August and I have around 130 guests. I bought 50 lanterns. I opened every pack took the instructions out and printed our names and date of the wedding on the back. I also included a lighter in every pack - just make sure you've considered how your going to light them. If it rains I'm sure we could sell them on ebay.

Mirandolina - Im getting married in Loch Lomond and the venue have ok'd the sky lanterns so you should be ok but check with your venue just in case!
