Subject: Option for Cheap (but nice) Wedding Car(s)
Those who read my posts will know that when I got married we asked a good friend and workmate of Earl’s to take me & my 2 grown-up bridesmaids to our wedding in his lovely silver BMW which we trimmed with a white ribbon garland I’d made myself (having bought 2 rolls of 1½” nylon taffeta ribbon at only 50p per roll!) - I also had an identical ribbon put on my brother’s highly polished black People Carrier which had in it my brother - obviously - since he was giving me away! - and a flowergirl & ring bearer (my brother’s children). This saved a fortune on fancy hired cars. Incidentally, I only used about two-thirds of one roll of ribbon, needn’t have bought the 2nd roll!

Anyway, I was talking to a dear friend only the other day who also got married recently. Like me she was in her early 50‘s and it was her 2nd time around but she wanted a church wedding with the usual traditional trimmings wherever possible.

She telephoned various car places to get a wedding limo and was horrified at the cost. The cheapest quote was about £350 for one car. Her husband-to-be suggested either just paying the asking price or forgetting about a car at all. She insisted she MUST have a car but wasn't going to pay through the nose for one, and telephoned a local taxi firm. She asked if they had anything a bit more special than a standard minicab (although she was willing to “make do” with this if she had to).

They said that they had a couple of really nice Mercedes limos - one in silver, one in gold and it was £30 each car to hire for a journey around the local area. They told her that the distance between her home (the pick-up point) and the church and the distance between the church and the reception venue would all be covered within the £30 fee. However they couldn’t guarantee that the cars would wait for the duration of the marriage service in the church. So she said “If I throw in another £30 will they wait?” And the taxi company bloke agreed that they would wait! So she asked for both the silver and the gold Mercedes cars and gave them an extra £30 so’s they would wait.

That’s £90 altogether. Which isn't bad at all for TWO posh wedding cars. So it’s always worth asking your local hire car or minicab companies if they have something that would fit the bill. That’s of course if you DON’T have a friend or family member with a posh car of their own!!

Bamba xx
