Hi, This is my first time using the site so I hope it gets postd in the right place!!
I am looking for any advice/comments all welcome please. I am about to book my wedding for June next year with Anna Vafeiadou at Santorini weddings, i am thinking of getting married at the ira as i sm advised this is very romantic??? I originally wanted to get married at the winery but think it may be to big of a venue as i will only have 25-30 guests so thought something smaller may be better?? I am then looking to have my wedding meal/reception at either Pyrgos restaurant or the Best restaurant. Has anybody had this same wedding can you advise me or show pictures please??? I want a quiet occasion with just close family and friends, sunset wedding with beautiful views and nice food..am i making the right choice with any of this???thanks you allyg2b x

Hi girls!
We have not decided yet about where our wedding will be held, we are getting married in 2011, so it's not a hurry.
But i was in Santorini last month for a friend's wedding and we did went around for sight seeing a little.

I only have to say, IT'S MAAARVELOUS!!!
The place is stunning. If you wish to have the ceremony at the sunset choose a place at Oia or Fira. Don't go to the other side towards Kamari and Perissa. At Akrotiri i don't know really. But Fira and Oia are just wonderfull, with lots of hotels, restaurangs, venous etc.

At the wedding that i attended the couple where greeks that live permanently in the UK. They managed to organise everything in 3-4 months. Most if not all their guests came from other places in Greece. It was just the 2 of them that flyed from UK.

I don't know about Pyrgos or Best, i think Pyrgos is really wellknown. They had their reception at a restaurang near the airport. The food was fantastic. The party was only greek live music.

They had 50-60 guests that mst were booked at http://www.rhapsody-apartments.gr/
Very nice and affordable, they have prices at their website.

The ccouple plus some of their friends had booked hotel at Fira, Imerovigli.

They had booked a greek photographer who lives in Sweden but travels also to Greece for weddings.
He has many photos and a slideshow at their homepage.
There you will se what i mean that the place is marvelous!

Happy to answer more questions if i can help yo this way!

Hi,

I don't come on here much these days as we got married in Santorini in June.... but just email me if there is anything I can do to help kimshutler@hotmail.com or Kim Shutler-Jones on facebook for pics

Pyrgos is meant to be lovely but very expensive. Is it Best restaurant in Perissa? If so we had our welcome meal there. It is nice but is very large - so you are unlikley to get it private.... I guess it must seat a good 200 people. The food is very good though... some of the best we had in Perissa.... We had our reception at Taverna Korali which was amazing if you want a pretty little traditional taverna. Lovely food, lovely people! We ended up sorting this place ourselves when we got there as our wedding planner from hell %&*$# up the first venue. xx

Hi,

I am also getting married in Santorini in Aug 2011. I have just come back from Santorini which is a beautiful island! I have pictures on Facebook if you would like to have a look.

I am going with Michael who was very good and he took us around the island so we could see the venues for ourselves. We are hoping to have our reception at a tavern in Kamari.

I'm also getting married in santorini in Aug 2010 - we've booked through Michael with weddings-in-santorini - so far he's been fantastic.

We are having our ceremony at the winery but we've been told that they are holding pop concerts here throughout aug so this may have to change.
Our reception is at Atmosphere lounge in Kamari & we are staying at Tamarix del Mar, Kamari.

Give us a shout if you need a hand with anything

Hi,

Mrs Brooks to be is right, Michael also told us the same thing even though we have booked the Winery. We are hoping that Greek pop stars don't want to perform on the evening we want our wedding!

Hi Joanne

I am planning to get married in Santorini in May 2011, with very similar plans to yours. We definitely want to get married at the Winery and are looking for reception venues currently.
I am seriously considering Prygos, but it does seem quite expensive particularly when i look at the wedding menu which doesn't seem all that special. i just want to make sure it is worth the money.
Did you go with the set menu or have you changed the menus at all?
Did you visit Pyrgos while you were out there? if so, what is it like?

Thank you!
Emma

The only thing im struggling with is the reception, does anyone know where would be good and not to far from the winery, i dont really want to head back into kamari or perissa. also my wedding party is only tiny, 10 of us in total, however im sure others will tag along,

Any help from some one who is doing the same as me, or has been there and done that, would be massively helpful!!!

Hi Louise,

If you don't want to go back to Kamari or Perissa how about going into Fira town? There are lots of restaurants to choose from. There is the Sphinx, which is a little restaurant with views of the caldera or the Selene, but that is pricy and the food is not your usual fare, when I looked at the menu last year when we went past, sea urchins were on the menu!

I am having my reception in Kamari as we are staying there. That way no one has far to stagger back to the hotel! The restaurant is the Almira which is very reasonable and the food there is great, we ate there and were very impressed.

Hi Jo,
Thanks for youe reply i will definately have a look at those places! I am staying in Kamari too. My mum wants to go to the mexican, which is over looking the caldera, but im unsure,

We didnt spend much time in Kamari last year as we stayed in Perissa, so i think thats the main reason we are thinking of elsewhere as we dont know what any of the resturants are like.

I see your getting married in August 2011, it will be very hot then, are you thinking wearing a traditional dress or a light floaty one?

Have you started planning much yet?

Louise
