I was going to go with both...
Hiring some giant garden games for the daytime, which came back at a cost of £290, and was then going to have some chinese lanterns from a company who provide the people to help light them at £195 for 50 lanterns.

Now I'm thinking that having both may be a bit too much as they said the chinese lanterns can be released by the guests, so I'm wondering if I went with both, if there would be an overload of stuff which takes the focus away from the day!?

What would you go for - games or lanterns?

Where are you getting married? I have to hire bouncy castles and things occasionally from work and I have definitely seen garden games for hire for a lot less than £295 - that seems VERY expensive. I know one place if you're in the right area that could do you 5 or 6 for about £100 or so.

I too love both but am going for garden games, for the exact reasons stated by carlyx.
They look soooo stunning tho! I might just get one for h2b and I LOL.

Good god! Where are you getting your garden games from for that price? I'm hiring three lots for £40 with a £60 refundable deposit.

The sky lanterns are lovely but you have to have the right weather conditions - like with fireworks. If you're near fields of corn that aren't harvested etc or if you've hay bales and stuff, it's not a good idea (though if you've flame proofed your hay bales you'll be ok - but doing a feild worth is not a good plan!).

Some venues also won't let you have them for all teh health and safetey reasons above - I'd speak to the venue and see. I work for a firework display company on the side as crew so am used to all the safety precautions and whatnot as it's about the same - you just have to be careful and have a fire extinguisher/bucket of water at hand just in case! I think it's a fairly rare occurrance that they set light to things as if you get it right (practice being key here) they don't come down till they have gone out - think of all the huge releases in china and sweeden - they wouldn't do those if they were that unsafe, would they?

I would say from my point of view that I would love the lanterns, but he games are more fun all day, if you see what I mean (but I'd see if you could get another quote for the games - where are you?)

Dusty, I hope you come back to read this! Totally off topic (sorry fishy), but how did you get into being crew with a fireworks company? Its h2bs dream job (I should probably be worried...), any advice would be fab!
