I am going to start off with introducing myself as hopefully we get some new Brides, Wives & Grooms on here as well as all the faithful's from the Chinese Brides thread.

I am Carms and I got married in July 2009.
I had a Chinese themed wedding in an old Georgian hotel in the Midlands.
It rained most of the day and there were some glitches... but it was still the most incredible day of my life!
Here are some piccies of me and hubby and me and BM on our wedding day by the photographer we booked ~ Ken Lam

Carms – I did ask the lady but she said that the bride and groom would need to provide the stands. Ummm its strange when they provide the stationery. Never mind I’ll just get some cheap ones from ebay or something.

Yep corkage is nearly non existent in Mauritius. The meal is really cheap too. We get a 10 course meal for 10 people on each table for around £250 so only £25 a head…

I don’t think we’ll get loads of alcohol as the venue is quite far from “civilisation” and as it’s a restaurant and not a hotel people can’t stay overnight so they will need to drive back home afterwards. Normally people don’t drink that much at weddings in Mauritius so I won’t go overboard on alcohol : ) Save myself some pennies at the same time hehe

The things people get up to at weddings in the UK. At H2B brother wedding, one of his aunties fell down the stairs and injured her arm. I was in bed by then…

Yep they had loads of cakes but no cupcakes : ) I over indulged on cakes that day. There was chocolate fudge cake, vanilla sponge cake with buttercream, chocolate brownies, lemon tart. And yes, I ate them all lol

About your dress - Nah I think you did the right thing as sometimes when you see the different stages you can’t quite picture the end result and you sort of stress yourself out more. It’s not the same when you see the final dress and you see bits being sewn together : )

I wouldn’t eat certain WW stuff. I tried there corn snacks once and seriously I could of sworn that cardboard tastes nicer than that lol

I agree about the Sugar Beach. Initially I thought that there was only two 5 star hotels around that area and the rest were 4 star and below but then I realised that there were quite a bit more hotels there. And I fell in love with the Sugar Beach. I love the colonial feel to the place and it’s looking more than likely I’ll book it plus the hotel was renovated on the 1st of August 2008 and on our wedding day it will be its 2 years anniversary that it has re-opened as a 5 star hotel. Not that it’s important or anything as it’s just a date but I thought that was quite cool. I’m just being a bit silly lol

I really hope you can make it in Nov but if not there will always be another time : )

I freeze a lot of food as well. I can’t believe you don’t eat when you’re at home. I’m the opposite when I’m in the flat I tend to want to eat the whole contents of the kitchen cupboard but when I’m at work I don’t eat so much. Mind you people at work are always dieting so I feel like I should be good all the time hehe

You should be eating more hun. I can’t imagine not eating. I love food way too much and I feel so irritable if I don’t eat. I love to constantly eat and it can be hard for me to stop myself sometimes. Back in my Size 14 days I used to eat all the time and especially a lot of junk food like McDonalds, KFC and Chinese take away. I always super sized the portions as well. I’ve had to completely change my lifestyle to become this size so my fat days tendencies still come back some days and I have to stop myself lol

Your not behind hun. It’s a US brand so not that famous in the UK. I didn’t know about it until my ex when to the US and brought back a t-shirt for me and then I looked it up online and now a shop has opened in London. I don’t think its worth a visit though as its way too crowded and over priced!

Martial arts class was good but I don’t think I’ll continue as its going to work out too expensive to do it in the long run and I already go for Yoga and Body Blitz classes and I try and walk as much as I can. My hips felt a bit sore afterwards but it soon passed as it’s not that exerting but when they give you that punch bag and the other person kicks you, boy does it hurt lol I’m not used to being kicked and punched as you can imagine haha

Thanks for setting up the new thread. It’s best to let the old one go as I don’t think anyone can be asked to trawl through the thread for ideas so it’s better to start from fresh. It was getting annoying having to get to page 80 before seeing the latest post! lol

Sam – This is the bridal comb:

http://www.glitzysecrets.com/nostalgic-dream-hair-comb.html

I agree with Carms that you can bond better when you can picture someone rather than chatting to a nickname lol
I hope I didn’t disappoint you too lol
I love travelling as well. H2B always says that to me. I’d be going everywhere and anywhere everyday if I could lol
Today they are baking off Danish pastries and it smells soooooo nice : )

Hello!

just looked at bridal comb and its gorgeous and not majorly expensive either - its fab! i think one of the clips that I might buy is from there...its in the clips section but its the butterfly...!! what do you think?

No, you didnt disappoint - hehehe - you have lovely face and tiny body too....you have such defined cheekbones...hehehe!!!

Oh my - i love danish pastries - would love a nice warm danish - i remember having danishes in florida and it was sooo big....!!! I also love eating too - i can get grouchy if i havent eaten too - hehehe!!

Just checked menu for venue and they also do a late supper of bacon butties, Smoked back bacon ‘butties’, Cumberland sausage with caramelised onions sandwiches, Crispy jacket wedges with garlic mayonnaise/sour cream or vegetarian option: Grilled garlic open cap mushroom, vine tomato and rocket and its a lot cheaper too although they wont serve this till 10pm - is that too late to eat?? Hmmm...but they sound so yummy - would save over £200....hmm...decisions...decisions...cant wait to choose menu!!!

yeh i would love to travel all the time if I could afford - see the world - would be ace!!

just paid for the ribbon and the embellishments today - so these should arrive on Friday - i cant wait!

Sugar beach is defo good option - have you emailed them to see what deals they could get you? is it far from your MRU venue??
Has anyone started shopping re wedding lingerie? are you going to get something special or just normal underwear for under dress and something special for honeymoon? What did you do carms?

xx

im going to have to check with my venue with table name stands now...as I dont know if they provide this either,...hhmmm...xx

Thanks. I love it and I just looked at the measurement and it should be a good size to wear on top of my head tiara style lol and as you said it’s not expensive. The head bands make me get a headache so a comb seems like a better option for me.

I’m going to get it later yay. Its funny you mentioned the butterfly clip as I was looking at that one thinking how pretty it is : )

Awww thanks for the compliment : )

What shocked me was the size of the muffins in Florida. They looked like a sharing cake to me lol It’s a shame you guys don’t live around here or I would send some Danish pastries your way as I always take some for friends and family…

Yummy. You’re making me hungry!!!! Lol That sounds delicious. 10pm is ok. It depends when your main meal ends and I guess that you could always have some cakes put on the table whilst they wait for the buffet at 10pm…

When’s your food tasting session booked in for? Mine is mid march : )

Oooh you can start making a mock up of your invites soon. I’ll be doing a mock up of mine when my ribbon comes through. It should be here today but with the postal strikes I’m hoping in the next few days : )

I haven’t emailed the hotel yet but I’ll definitely be making all bookings in Feb. I’m just waiting around as I know everyone will book together in Feb so I’m hoping to get a better deal then as it’ll be a group booking : )

It’s about a 10 to 15 mins drive from the venue I think as its in the same area : )

I bought a white corset from ebay and it looks fab. I thought it was going to look cheap but nope it looks great. I think I’ll get a padded strapless bra from Debenhams as they seem to fit me the best. My SIL2B wore blue knickers with Mrs P on there if I’m not mistaken as she sort of whispered that to me in the reception. I’m not sure if I’ll get anything special made. I’ll buy some lovely underwear for the honeymoon though lol

Yep weddings are so much more expensive in the UK but its also a lot “posher”! My mum can’t wait for the Uk wedding as she’s only been to weddings in Mauritius : )

I love the little butterfly - going to see if I can find a cheaper alternative though as £30 seems quite a lot of money for a smallish clip!

No worries about the compliment - hehe!

Yeh the muffins were big too! So were the steak portions - no wonder everyone can be so big out there! Aw, really want a danish now - haha!

Not sure when tasting session is - not sure if we get one actually - think we may have to pay for it - is yours included in price? I know we get menus towards the end of this year but we dont have the pick the actual menu till about may time. Meal will end up about 6.30pm and then evening guests to arrive about 7.30pm - do you think its long time though for the evening guests or do you think they would have eaten anyway? Yeh could put out cakes on table before 10pm and if have sweetie table then they could nibble on that....

I dont think I will need corset as the dress has got a section in it that is boned so will pull me in - prob get nice strapless bra too and nice underwear for honeymoon. aw, your SIL2b underwear sounds fab idea...!!

Yeh, suppose they are quite posh in a way!

Did you see on news that someone got a wedding for £51 on ebay??? Thats such a bargain! xxx

£30 for a clip is quite expensive but maybe you can have a look on ebay for a cheaper alternative. I could have a look for the hair comb that I found on there from ebay but then at £20 + delivery i think its a good price

Our food tasting session is part of our package. Did you get a package per head or are you hiring the rooms separately and paying for people's meals etc? Ours is a price per head and you get a lot included in the package. I knocked a few things out and they took some money off the extra room that we needed to hire for the evening do.

I would put the cakes and sweets out if you serve food at 10pm as from my experience I was soooo looking forward to the buffet at 9pm when h2b brother had there wedding and if it was 10pm i would of got a bit agitated lol As long as you have some food to keep people going until 10pm it should be ok. Its all the alcohol and dancing that makes people hungry

I don't think I'll need a corset with my dress either as it'll be a bit uncomfortable to wear during the wedding but I might wear it on the wedding night

£51? Is that for a wedding dress? You couldn't even get married legally for that price surely

Hi... glad you all agree that a new thread was much needed =)

Sam ~ you will make a stunning bride as u are very pretty indeed ^.^
Sounds like we all love a spot of travelling. I keep wanting to book a flight to see my cousin (who was a bm) and my family in HK. I could leave hubby here and I can go by myself.. but he wants to leave til next April so we can go together! I want to go NOW!!! Guess I will have to wait!

I do need to eat as my energy levels are dipping now but I don't ever feel hungry (unless I went out for a meal and I can so eat then!) I have never felt a need to lose weight although I am not as slim as I sometimes hope to be. But I am still cool whichever size I have been.
The evening buffet we served was definately worth it... cheap and tasty!

Ah... glad u have eased my mind that I am not now an old granny by not knowing a clothing brands! Tbh tho... I have lost track on fashion recently, not that I have been a huge fashion follower in the past.
I love clothes and I like to feel good in what I am wearing, but I have been more into pieces that don't go in and out of fashion, as I spent soo much time in work clothes anyway.

ThankQ for compliments on wedding piccies... I too soooo cannot wait to see the rest. Don't worry ladies, I will be bombarding you all with the piccies soo you get sick of them! haha! No album as we opted for the package which we could afford... but I get it all on disk which I can print them all myself and I am making my own albums on Bobbooks.

Mel ~ That is bizarre that they dont provide stands but they do stationary. But then maybe you get really creative with the stands as our's were kinda plain and simple.
Have you had anymore pics on your dress?

Dates are special to us girls hey... I must admit tho I have been losing my mind recently and becoming very forgetful. I think not working is making me really bad and lazy!

Will definately try and make it in Nov... but it's a fingers crossed and hope thing.
When I was working and if I was hungry I was sooo mardi, but now at home alone I have noone to be mardi with so might as well be nice to myself! I think we all love a good bit of junk... u cannot beat a Mcdees or KFC!

I've always thought you did quite a bit in fitness - good on you!
Glad u enjoyed it but I can only assume with all the classes it will get expensive - save it for the dance lessons!

We served evening food at 9pm - They could leave it out for a max of 2 hrs and I think it was ok timing. Perfect for evening guests that had arrived at 730pm ish but if it stopped out closer to midnight for the day guests that would have been better.
We served wedding breakfast at 430pm and finished by around 645pm.
So... I guess it does depend on what time you finish W.B and if you hv many evening guests going.

Underwear?!!! that was an escapade.
It was so funny. I spent months looking at underwear, trying them on and didnt have much joy. I wanted seamless, white/ nude bust boosting and tummy clinching ones. Anyway, I never found ones that fitted right and I was getting v. frustrated by the time it was the weekend before (bearing in mind we got wed on a Tues and I didnt want to spend lots and lots on this) so.. day before wedding day I made a panic phonecall to one of my BM...
"S**t, I have no underwear!" so she was like
"what, non at all?!" ...lauging her head off!
"No, no special ones for h2b and that sucked my belly in".
"Don't quite think they do both of those in one! Okay, I'll try and get you some!"
"Don't worry about going into the city, just go Tescos for me and get me some white and non granny looking ones"

So, I ended up with my own bra and then knickers from Tesco's!
Don't think hubby took any notice anyway!

They didnt suck my belly in but they didnt show through the white fitted dress at least. But then I hardly ate all day and so my belly wasnt bulging. I only wanted them for the Qipao as the white dresses held me in fine.

Sounds exiting stuff for your invites Mel. Have lots of fun making them.
Agree honeymoon is for more nicer underwear... wedding should be practical!
Aw... ur mum must be so exited now. =)

We had to pay 50% of our food tasting bill... I thought that was cheeky considering how much we spent on venue... but still, the hotel in the end saved us lots of money as we told them we lost our jobs. So, that was really kind of them. They saved us enough where it really made a difference to our bill.

Wow! £51 for a wedding off ebay?! Thats some crazy stuff...But brill!
There was a competition on heart.fm recently (are they national or local radio stn?!) anyway... they had a £12000 wedding in a castle, with dresses, suits everything provided.
I thought if we hadnt already got married I would have entered!

Where has everyone else gone from here?!
We need to hear more wedding chat!

xx

I’ve got some more piccies but I’ve asked them to amend it again. They are off on holiday and back next week so I should get more pics on Monday. Fingers crossed they get it right this time… I’m not going to stress myself out as I want it to be right so if it takes longer so be it : )

H2B always laughs at me for mentioning dates of when we are going to do things. I plan things way in advance and he’s always puzzled how I can remember things so far away. Maybe I haven’t got that much more stuff to think about lol

Yeah I do try and keep fit as much as I can hehe I’m trying to make sure that I look the best I can on my wedding day lol

I seriously need to start having facials or something as I do get skin concerns sometimes. Mind you I’ve stopped using foundation for a while. I only use tinted moisturiser and loose powder nowadays so I’ve moved away from the totally flawless look. I only put foundation on when I go out nowadays. I’m trying to let my skin breathe a bit more… I also need to start using moisturiser as I’ve been really lazy with the beauty regime : )

I always like to be doing something new and I started a dress making class last night and I can’t wait to start making my first dress as from next week. I just need to buy all the little bits and pieces to make the dress : )

I don’t know about you guys but sometimes I think that you can spend so much on underwear and then all they care about is getting it off you as quickly as possible lol Its nice to wear nice ones though. As long as you are comfortable I think that’s all that matters…

That is cheeky that you had to pay 50% of the food tasting bill but like you said at least they tried to give you savings in other ways. I don’t think my venue have given me many money saving options…

Hello!

Mollybride - yeh going to look for cheaper clip elsewhere - prob look on ebay or local vintage shop near me to see what they have got too as want some vintage looking earrings!!! will get some pics if I see anything....

I dont think we have food tasting - think we have to pay - yes, we are paying per head - we have to choose each course and we have got the function room included but hired ceremony room!! hhmmm..not sure what to do re the evening buffet - guess have to wait till we get the new prices and menu for next year but if we put out cakes then would still not save any money....will see what happens!!!

Yeh it was £51 - they won in on ebay as there was last minute cancellation in a hotel and the package was worth about £1500 so the groom &bride just paid towards it and doubled the amount of guests - search for story on news...!!

Carms - aw, thanks for compliment - i do hope I look stunning on the day - hehehe! You was very stunning bride too!!! ^^

Glad you are going to eat more - you need energy even for decorating - hehehe! and especially if trying for baby too!!

I love clothes - from a very young age although as I have got older - i am more body confident so I feel like that I can wear stuff I didnt use to wear - I love showing my legs as I have quite toned legs from the gym work i do...hehehe...however, i do like key pieces too that doesnt date and I love my dresses...I think thats my biggest vice...hehehe....I just tend to buy few key pieces then buy stuff to top up the looks!! With my job, we can more or less wear what we want so like today, Im wearing my shirt, tights and little puffball skirt with heels whilst yesterday I was be in my skinny jeans and nice top,....it does vary and depends on my mood for work...hehehe! Although I sooo desperately want to go shopping but I have to be very good!!!

Carms - reading your tale about your underwear made me chuckle - might go for practical for the day and save the special underwear for the honeymoon then!

I totally dont know where everyone has gone - do you think they have all jsut got married? Who is left to get married still apart from me and Mollybride? Is it MrsYip2b next? I bet she is getting all excited and getting ready for wedding!!

Mollybride - dont stress - im sure the dress will look fine!!! are you going to share your final dress pics when you get them?

Yeh im like you mollybride - i go to gym about 3 times a week but my friend is also personal trainer so it helps and motivates me - i kinda enjoy winding down from work at gym...so hopefully stay same size in 9 months time since dress is made to measure - hehehehe....!

I would defo keep moisturising mollybride - will make your skin gorgeous - i have to do it every morning and every night - its habit that I had since a little girl! I do a home facial once a month but love to go have someone else do it for me....might get one as treat although every spare penny counts...! Its good that you are letting your skin breath...will be good for your skin...!

come to think of it - dont think my venue has given me many saving options either - need to check if can get anything...hmm....

Going to order BM dresses in a couple of weeks - need to get everyone together to try the dresses on and get them ordered...hhmm..best get appointment sorted!!!

A local vintage shop is a very good idea. I didn’t think of that. I bought the hair clip last night and that was part of their vintage range so I guess I like that look : ) I’m waiting on my jewellery set. The post is really doing my heading these days. They keep going on strike!

You could get some cheaper cakes from supermarkets and slice then into small pieces. You’ll be surprised with the quality and taste of the cakes and there not that expensive…

Wow how cool would that be to get a wedding for £51! Would any of you ladies ever consider doing that wedding show don’t tell the bride? I was chatting to a work colleague today and he was telling me about the one that was on last night. I didn’t see it but he said it was real shambles and the bride was crying at every opportunity. I don’t know about you guys but I thought that if it was me doing that show H2B would already be briefed on what I want and don’t want and then he would do it the way I want it and I wouldn’t have any nasty surprises hehe. I wonder how they vet these people as there partners don’t seem to know what their other half wants.

H2B was saying that you look very young. He thought you were around 22 years old… It’s funny but no-one has ever told me that I look younger. EVER! I always get comments like you must be around 29 years old or something. It does my heading sometimes but well. H2B says its because of the way I dress. He said I wear classic clothes a lot which makes me look older. Well I hope he’s right and its not just my face that looks old lol
Wow that is so good of you to go to the gym three times a week. I wish I could have that continuity and I imagine that’s how you keep your slim figure and of course with the addition of healthy eating. I always say that if I just exercised more I would be able to eat more lol I do exercise but I never do three classes a week. My exercise classes are more ad hoc. When I can be bothered to go sort of thing lol

I love puffball skirts. It’s very girly. I don’t wear skinny jeans very often as I hate my legs so it just emphasises them. My legs are toned as well but my calves are really chunky…

I’m trying to refrain from shopping as well. I went to the high street today and walked straight out of the shops as I know I shouldn’t be torturing myself lol

Two of the ladies are on holiday. One in the US and one in Korea I think and I don’t know where Pucca has gone… MrsYip2b is getting married in just under 2 weeks I think and most of the other ladies are married already.

I’ll definitely share the pics once I get my dress. I might even post a picture of myself in it : )

That’s so good that you take care of your skin. Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong and look older lol My aunt has always been told that she looks really young and she has been religiously using Clarins since I can remember…

Ooh BM dresses. I bought mine from Coast. They were £115 each. I was finding it hard to get baby blue dresses so when I found them I got them immediately….

How many BM do you have?
