Subject: 5 foot 2 size 10 but need to loose weight!
This is my first time posting and I am doing it to motivate myself. I have chosen and paid for my dress - Jenny Packham's Petra - I love it but I am having dress wobbles (in more way than one)! I keep worrying I am too short and curvy for that dress, I cannot really talk to my friends about this as they would just tell me I am being stupid. Im not fat, but do have love handles and need toning up. I have been trying but am still the same size and since I am going in for my measurements in 3 weeks so they can order my dress I need to take action!

Currently I am 54 kilograms (8 stone 4) 35 ins bust, 27 ins waist, 36 ins hips - this I seem to remember the shop assistant saying is a Jenny Packham 12 - although I have never bought a 12 in my life and am always a 10 or sometimes an 8 in clothes.

Anyway (I am going on a bit here) I bought myself a pair of size 8 (waist 26) topshop jeans today (I usually get the 10) to try and motivate myself, I have swapped semi-skimmed milk for skimmed, eat less fatty foods and cut down on alcohol and exercise more. I was good and did a 5k run today and 10 mins on the step machine and some weights at the gym. I am hoping to use this as a bit of a diary - knowing other people can read it will help me I think. If anyone has any tips I would be greatful as I have never tried to loose weight before, I dont want to loose much just enough that I feel at my best on my wedding day?

Thanks

Well I have been good! Today I have had special k with berries for breakfast, a banana, porridge with berries and nuts added for dinner and I am going to have homemade chicken noodle soup for tea. I have also booked in to go spinning at the gym tonight, will not go tomorrow as I'm meeting a friend for coffee! Feeling extra motivated and even managed to ignore a box of biscuits in the staffroom- a first for me!

Must admit though the skimmed milk is making my cup of tea less enjoyable:(

JKirk well done it sounds like you are having a very good first day, keep it up! I would suggest not to bulk yourself down with too many carbs with cereal and poridge and noddles!

Skimmed milk is horrid but you will get use to it, promise! I was exactally the same from full fat to semi skimmed... it tasted like water!

Spinning classes will really help, also try doing some toning excerise to get rid of the love handles! Sit ups/ push-ups etc...

Keep up the good work!

Petra is a beautiful dress. You don't sound too curvy for it at all.

a Jenny Packham 12 - although I have never bought a 12 in my life and am always a 10 or sometimes an 8 in clothes.

Don't fret that they have ordered a 12 and think you have to lose weight because you've never bought a 12 in your life. Wedding dresses are not sized like ordinary dresses. Most brides have to go up a size or two, simply because wedding dress sizes are smaller than high street sizes. I'm a 10/12 yet my hip size for my dress was a size 14. However, if I put on size 14 skirts or trousers, they fall down!

It really doesn't matter what size they ordered. What matters is how you felt in the dress when you tried it on. Please don't get hung up on sizes. I totally understand you want to look your best on your wedding day but I'm concerned you maybe trying to lose weight when you don't really need to.

If it's just love handles you want to lose then I'd recommend seeing a Personal trainer at your gym who can give you specific exercises for your body shape.

Thank you both so much for your comments! Re the carb- they are def my weakness but as I am a teacher and on the go all day I feel like I am not full up without them and likely to get home and eat lumps of cheese and handfuls of cereal out of the box!

Re: love handles - it's not just there, would say I have an extra inch all over really, nothing dead bad - just enough to be self conscious. I've always exercised but in April this year I fell over while running and broke my shoulder, since then I put on a little bit of weight but despite exercising as normal (2-4) times a week 5 ks running each time, it has made no difference. I am 30 in jan and I think my metabolism has slowed down and continuing to eat the same meals and portion size as my 6 foot fiancé is doing me no good! Thanks for your reassurance about the dress sizes though and I will definitely ask at my gym about specific exercises as o think I have become used to my routine.

Got back from spinning and I loved it, will definitely do that again! Just got to do some marking now

Day of rest today - extremely saddle sore from yesterday's spinning so a nice bath instead I have still been good though and made sure my stir fry I had for tea was not the same size as my fiances! Its amazing that I feel so much better already - have even enquired at myboudoir to see about getting a shoot done before my wedding next July as a present for Dave!

I know- think couture/ bridal sizes are just different. Also a 10 in today's sizes is bigger than in the 1950s say, to take into account changes in body shape.

Despite the fact that all dec I will be having a chocolate every day (advent calendar)! I'm still keeping up with the regime- just got back from the gym and while I was there booked into spinning for Friday- have never been this good in my life!

Hey,

Just wanted to say that wedding dresses are sized smaller (you'd think they'd make them bigger to make you feel better wouldn't you!) - my wedding dress was a size 16 and am usually an 8-10 - it was American made and apparently my D cups make me a UK size 16! Was not impressed and like you dieted just so I felt less self concious.

You sound like you're doing a great job! I did the same and lost about an inch off most places and was thrilled so carry on! Please don't feel too annoyed at needing the larger sized dress or let yourself be demoralised by it.

Keep up the good work! x

Hiya, just to let you know I'm a 5ft 1 and weight 54kg as well. luckily I am not quite told I'm .... fat but also trying to lose weight. i began going to gym, but being no very active for the last 10 yrs, going to gym once a week is very hard on me. I booked a personal trainer so that I have no excuse not to go. So far.. even after 1 month, I lost 1 pound. But.. my wedding is oct 10 so on this rate, hopefully 1 stone will be gone.
We're altogether here. keep up!

I know how you both feel - but I have good news! After a week of my regime I have lost half an inch off my waist, hips, thighs and bicep! I now weigh 52 kg! Im am so pleased as all the exerc ise is getting a bit boring but it is worth it. I have been to the gym 5 times in the week (so two rest days). I have varied it each time, so have been spinning, running, 10 mins running, 10 cross trainer, 10 step machine etc.. and also doing bicep curls, tricep dips, lateral pull downs, squats, lunges and sit ups. Still eating what I normally would but smaller portions.

Went out last night - in my size 8 topshop jeans which I bought - they are still a little bit tight but noticably different in one week and I felt great. My fiance was very complementary Was a bit hungover today (probably because I would normally drink lager and not gin and slimline tonic) but resisted the temptation for a fry up and had scrambled egg instead.

I know you usually loose more in the first week, Im hoping its not just water - I have been drinking loads more water because of the exercise. Just another half an inch to go...

HIya, I know how you feel! I am 31, and am 4"10. I use to be a size 6 before I meet my finace 4 years ago, and seem to have gained a few pounds and have gone from a 23 inch waist to a 27inch waist. Which, although not fat, it doesnt feel comftable on me. I have lumpy bits I want to get rid of around my waist, thights and upper arms. I was planning to start back at the gym in Jan, but find it boring. I do kickbox, and will up my sessions in the week. Does jogging really help? Or will I need to tone up on top of that?

Running is the best! But I would also do toning with weights too. I've got the best news as I got measured yesterday and my waist is now 24 inches and I was small enough to go for the 8- except for my bust which is a 10. I'm so pleased, going to keep up the exercise but will eat as normal over Christmas. I think if you want something hard enough it is possible.

i got to the gym every Saturday and I eat as healthily as I can.

I mainly calorie count though.

I'm not quite petite in height but not tall either as I'm nearly 5ft 5 but I weigh 52 kilos and I'm a size 6 -8.

My measurements are Bust 31, Waist 24 and Hips 33.5.

I've got a really boney upper body with my hip bone sticking out and H2B keeps going on at me to put on weight but on the other hand I've got "fat" thighs so even if I would love all the weight to go to my bust it doesn't happen that way.

Good on you for loosing the weight and being motivated. I'm way too obsessed about my weight now but I don't know how to get away from the cycle of trying to diet when I don't need to.

I was a bit miffed when they told me last year that I needed to order a size 10 dress and I'm a size 6 -8 on the high street.

Since then I started dieting even more and my dress is due in next week and I asked for the measurements again and looks like i went a bit too far as i'm 2 inches below on the size chart on the bust and hips but my waist is only 3/4 inches lower so I'm worried that if I do put on weight then the waist might get too snug. If only I could put the weight on in the right area. Wishful thinking!
