Hi

I have done really well at sticking to budget, havent over spent on things I dont really need but we are still going over bduget. We got engaged last year and within a week set the date for the wedding. It was all very exciting and I got loads done in the first few months. However in august my H2B was made redundant and we were a couple of months without a wage. We have 2 children and I dont work. Anyway he got anohter job for ALOT less than we were used to and its been a real struggle. We have gone from being able to live comfrtable to being a real shoe string. Then he found out last week that this job was going to end 3 weeks before our wedding!!! Now its close to the big day everything is needing paid. My parents have been great and have helped with loads, the cake, my dress, bm dress and the guests meals and hotel costs. His parents are paying for the photographer and suits. We said we would pay for all the other bits, band, rings, wedding licence fees, our celbrant, favours, invites etc etc. It comes in that we are £600 short and that is basically our videographer. Ive spoke to my mum abouti t but she said they really have spent over what they put aside for me and I totally appreciate it as they are spends £100's . I really have my heart sent on having a video and have shopped about and hes the cheapest in the area. If i have to cancel it I will be so gutted as I wanted to have it all on dvd to show his granparents as they live so far away they cant make wedding and obviusly for us to look at as the years go past.

The whole money situtaion is just dragging us down and sort taking the sparkly away from the day.
Im not sure what im expecting you guys to say to help but just thought writting it down would maybe help. Its not the end of the world and I know there is far more imprortnat things in life than my wedding. I just feel a bit gutted I have all this hanging over me just before the big day!

Is anyone in the same situation?

Have you tried selling things on ebay? Could you try and get a part time job or do something at home like making and selling cards or sewing if you've 2 young children to look after?
Are you sure that that this videographer is the cheapest? My videographer is only £380 and that includes everything except the evening reception. Could you ask a guest to video the wedding for you instead?

Hope this helps and good luck finding a solution

Was going to suggest getting someone to bring their video camera and do it for you.

It's not the end of the world. You are still getting married. Keep things in perspective.

You could look at local colleges and unis for students offering their services?

These are the talented videographers of the future so might be getting yourself an amazing bargain!

We have bought a hd camcorder for £250 and are getting a friend to record the day for us, in all honesty i think that will be better than a proffesional one as we can keep the original with the exchange of vows and we can burn another copy to add a sound track and edit!!! You dont need to pay a lot to get a good record of your day to watch back!!!

I am having my stepdad video the wedding - as he is a dab hand with the camcorder, and thats where he feels most comfortable.
My lil BIL2B - who will be 16 at our wedding, has asked if he can record too - so I have suggested that he can do the informal video messages from our guests throughout the day and evening.

I know what you mean stressing about money though, I have just done our workings out - and my H2b has just passed his driving test, and will be fully qualified by the summer - therefore earning him two payrises (I am very proud of him) ... but unfortunately due to our tax credits I will have to go and work part time to make it possible to save!! He is gutted, as he is doing all he can to better himself and provide more for us, and it has kinda backfired on him.

Just have faith that all will work out...I read a thread yesterday on best/worst things about a wedding - and the overall number one best thing, was seeing a bride and groom in love and enjoying their day regardless!! Bear that in mind through the bad times.

We're borrowing a camcorder and h2b's dad is going to record for us.
To be honest, I'd be pretty happy if that was hte only part of my wedding I had issues paying for, we're thinking of cancelling and just going to a registry office by ourselves because we're having trouble saving with other expenses as well. At the end of the day, it's meant to be about the marriage not the wedding, and I'm sure you won't be upset if you have a dvd that was recorded by a family member rather than a professional one.

Ae tetra I feel for you as another bride to2 with sticking to a very tight budget - I would say do all you can to save up between now and the wedding.

Is your hubby looking for another job? I know things are tough out there and there is a lot of competition but the thing is to keep trying.

When we go to the supermarket, we always look in the bargain bays and discounted food aisles to save money. We're both inventive cooks so that is good. Cancel anything you don't need.

I would love to have a video done but unless someone offers to do it, we can't afford to have one done. We will struggle for a photographer at the moment. However, like you, by hook or by crook I will get there.
As for the remaining £600, is there another family member that could lend you the money and is happy for you to pay them back in installments?

I am sure you can sort things out! xx

Tell your guests to bring camcorders if they have them, and ting around the local colleges. Problem solved.
