I'm getting married on 10th April 2010 - I've just discovered that this is the same day as the grand national. I always have a bet on national day I was wondering if we should have a wedding grand national sweepstake. This would meaning giving the Usher or best man the job of selling 40 horses to guests at say £2 each - then announcing the winner during the wedding breakfast.

What does everyone think to this? tacky or a good bit of post-wedding entertainment?

I'd apprecite your (honest) opinions

The last two wedding's i've been to have had sweepstakes on how long the speeches will last! No-one complained, most people stuck a pound in and thought it was great fun.

Yep, I think its great idea. We have a sweepstake pack for each table on the speeches as well as a couple other games to break the ice xx

We're getting married on 9th April 2011 & Ive just checked & thats when the grand national is on next year! lol!

H2b just phoned me & Ive suggested giving everyone a £1 or £2 bet on a horse as a favour!
Oh might have to have a horsey theme now! lol!

ETA: Might suggest race courses or famous racing horses as the table names!

I remember this in a magazine around grand national time last year and they suggested horse theme with bets as favours- would be good fun! Obviously you know your guests but I would have a think about whether any would be offended though, I know some people don't agree with horse racing maybe worth thinking about!

You could have horse themed table names, and even to make it look wedding like use a horse shoe picture- as they are lucky and it might make it look a bit less horsey! x

Aw Congratulations!! We are getting married on the same day!! I can't believe it is 8 weeks this weekend!! Starting to panic a bit!

I think that is a really good idea! I had no idea that the Grand National was on our wedding day! Might borrow that idea myself!
