Hi all,

We were planning on adding a couple of extra things in our invitations.

Firstly, we wanted to ask our guests, if they wanted to, to choose three songs that they would like to hear at the wedding.

Secondly, we are doing away with the normal speeches, and instead we wanted to ask anyone who knew either of us really well and wanted to do a speech whether they would do one at the wedding.

How would we ask these things in the invitations?

Also, what is your opinion on the Guft List, do we enclose details with the invitation or is this frowned upon?

My sister asked guests for their top three favourite songs. She just added an extra piece of paper, which was headed up " What do you like to dance too... please give your top three requests for the DJ" She then vetted them, wiping out my suggestions of TimeWarp, Conga & Lets talk about S*X! LOL and passed them on to the DJ.
Its a great idea!

Regarding asking people if they'd like to do a speech, be aware that you may end up with hours of speeches. I went to a wedding where they did something similar, and had asked for each speech to be five mins max, but most people went way over. They had about twelve speeches from people, it lasted nearly 3 hrs long with no breaks.

I had a sample invitation that a reply card with this sort of wording: 'Three songs that will get us on the dancefloor are.....'. Maybe put something like that on your invites??

We're doing the same with a playlist and have made RSVP cards with a space for the requests on.
We're not having a gift list, but I've seen people put the details on an information sheet with directions, accommodation info etc.
Can't help with the speeches thing I'm afraid - think I agree with Claire Mobbs on that one!

We put on our invitation that if people would like to give us a gift then there is a modest list in our preferred shop. Alternatively, there are a few larger items we need so if you would like to donate some money towards these things then it would be really appreciated.
But our guests will WANT to get us something. People are already asking me for the list info!
