Hi all

My H2B and I are in centrepiece hell!

Neither of us are bothered about having flowers, and we have a pretty small budget so I doubt that we could even if we wanted to.

However, we're stuck for ideas about what else we could use - what are you having?

Any ideas/pictures would be super useful - thank you

I'm not that fussed on cut flowers myself (going for a felt and button bouquet for this reason) so rather than having arrangements we're putting plates piled high with fortune cookies out instead. These'll double up as favours as well so we'll be killing two birds with one stone.

Did have the idea of filling a glass vase with Roses or Quality Street but then it was pointed out that with the wedding being in August that could get a bit sticky.

Lol I still look at it and the work involved scares me but i'm sure between H2B and me we'll get it right.

Good luck x

We had ostrich feathers in tall vases which I think look great and you can get them in any colour to suit your theme...Ours were in black and white to give a vintage hollywood look...The pictures are terrible though but I'll try and post one to give an idea

Gemmy I got them from Homebase, I had to have something reasonable as I needed 20! They were £7.49 each, bargain.

I have bought silk flowers on vines to wrap around them and strings of pearls, it has saved me loads of money.

We're having black wrought iron candelabra with chunky candles, and ivy wound round.

Hi piratehan,

When are you getting married? And where? Is there anything in your surrounding that could be used as inspiration for unusual centrepieces?

I went to a wedding reception in a tiny lighthouse on an island (a little rock!) in the Oslo fjord 10 years ago (my brother's wedding). They just had wildflowers in simple mis-matched glass vases, pebbles and seashells. Scallop shells filled with sand and tealights look fab for a seaside wedding, too, as well as pebbles for namecards.

I'm getting married in June, and will have self-made porcelain vases with wildflowers surrounded by porcelain tealight holders I'm making myself, possibly with mountain relief patterns to reflect my h2b and my love of the outdoors.

A friend of mine is having a November wedding, and is thinking of having vases with bare tree branches with glass ornaments hanging from them.

How about large, shallow glass bowls with floating candles? Or hurricane lamps with chunky candles?

Or, like others have suggested, make a table centre out of the favours, and kill two birds with one stone! Cupcakes, small bags of sweeties etc.

Good luck!

xx

I'm having mixed matched vases/jars/jugs with 'just put together' flowers which one of my freinds is doing on the day. Going to get some flowers which match with my bouqet/bridesmaids but also some from my grans garden....

e.g

with luggage tags as placecards, tied around the napkins with ribbon
