Subject: Anyone moving to Hameln Germany?
Hi girls

I cant believe I have been married for nearly a year already, where is the time going?
My husband is an Army Officer in the Royal Engineers, we are due to move from manchester to Hameln in Germany at the begining of June this year. I am looking forward to it, but at the same time I am a bit nervous as I have never lived away from Manchester before. Was just wondering is there anyone out there who as been or is there at the moment. Any advice girls on being an army wife?:\?

Hi,
I am not a forces bride but I did live in hameln when I was younger, my father was in the army when I was younger (I was actually born in wegberg & we lived in Dusseldorf too for a few years)

This was quite a few years back, I was at junior school when we lived in Hameln, I do remember it being lovely though. I often wonder if the flats we lived in are still there.

The town in Hameln is gorgeous.. Things will have changed so much though since I lived there.

I had a very happy childhood being raised as an Army child, all the mums stuck together when our dads were away & all of us kids got into some funny scrapes together.

Germany is a really nice country to live in, you will be fine hun.

Sorry that I cant be of much more help, I just had to reply when I saw Hameln being mentioned

Hi Cherub7!

How exciting that you are going away.... we are planning to put in for an overseas posting (RAF) after a year or so (we don't get married until November)...

I have no experience myself... but a friend of mine is an Army wife, they are due for a move in June and have put all 3 choices for germany... I'll keep you posted when she hears where they are going to!!

Good luck for the move!! xxx

Hi trolly dolly,

Thanks for replying. Hameln sounds really nice and its nice to know that you had a happy childhood while you were living out there as we plan to start a family when we get there.

Aww good luck with your move hun.

I am trying my hardest to remember the name of the estate we lived on.. I think it was "aferder" the spelling will be way off but it will give you some idea.

It was a small lot of flats right next to the german estate. Gorgeous in summer time, there were some lovely places for walks (or in or case places to build dens)

When it snowed in winter the school bus could not get up onto the estate sometimes because the snow got so deep, which meant we all got the day off & there was a fab hill for sledging down further down the road.

I have so many fond memories of Germany!!

Good luck with all your planning & if you get a chance after your move, get in touch & let me know what it is like. Be great to hear about it again

Take care
